Hello Everyone,
I have had MG for 14 years so you would think that I should know more than enough about this disease but I have a question and hope that someone on here can help me out a little. I'll try not to ramble so please bear with me.

I am on 60mg mestinon 5X daily, 2000mg of Cellcept daily and maintenance IVIG once a month and had been doing very, very good for about 2 years. But for the last couple of months good old MG has reared its ugly head again and unfortunately it's been very difficult for me.


I have to take 25 mg of Atenolol for a heart condition. This medication is known to cause mild weakness. My Neuro has researched it and says that such a low dose really shouldn't have that much of an affect on my MG. He is a GREAT Neuro and I trust him but I am still wondering if it is having more of an affect than it should. Of all the beta-blockers it is supposed to be the one that affects MG the least. I have tried other heart medication but nothing else works except atenolol. Some days it seems to affect my MG more than others but then again it could just be the disease itself. We all know that MG has a mind of it's own!

Anyway, I wanted to know if there was anyone out there with MG who has to takes heart medication and what you do to help counteract how it affects your MG.

I have always taken the pills separately but just thought about taking a Mestinon with the Atenolol to see if that would make a difference. Any thoughts about that?

Shari, I wish I could help you {but kind of glad I can't, if you know what I mean} My thyroid medication also causes weakness but sometimes you just have to accept it. I hate it and yes I am weaker then someone who takes synthroid and doesn't have MG. Sadly I don't believe there is anything we can do other then to adjust our lives around the "weakness" side effect of meds. You are in my thoughts
