Shocked Muscle Biopsy

Well I had it done today.

It wasn't too bad getting to the muscle since they numbed it with Lidacain (sp?)

But when they got to the muscle and took their samples (3 pea size samples to be exact) that hurt.

Now I have to ice it for 24 hours and can't get it wet and it's kinda sore. Oh and I still can't take Advil for the next week.

I'm by myself here with my two kids and have no idea what I'm going to make for dinner. I'm sure I'll find something quick I can make.

I should get the results in four weeks. Oh and I did tell the doctor about my breathing problems but he didn't really seem concerned. It wasn't the doctor I usually see, it was her boss.

Oh well just thought I would let you all know I made it through it and it only hurt a little, it will leave a scar, but what do I care.

I hope everyone is feeling well today, Erin I hope you enjoy your family and the Karaoke! That sounds so fun, I wish I was brave enough to sing in front of people. Any way have a good weekend!

Hi Kristie,

Sorry to hear your biopsy hurt!!! I didn't ever have to have one thankfully.

How frustrating that your doctor didn't listen toyou about your breathing problems! I find it totally amazing that drs don't listen, at the moment Im not sure if I'm having breathing problems or not. As in the past I've had drs scornfully say, "your oxygen sats are at 98%,
theres nothing wrong with you" I meekfully nod in agreement, and think "oh well maybe it is all in my head". Its a very sad situation when we are so very easily dismissed.

I hope you are doing ok today, and don't stress too much waiting for the results.
take care

Default Hey nemsmom!

OH DEAR, I AM SO SORRY YOU ARE IN PAIN......WHY ON EARTH WON'T THEY LET YOU TAKE ADVIL? THAT IS JUST SICK!

4 WEEKS? 4 WEEKS? THAT'S OUR HEALTH SYSTEM NOW......WHAT ARE THEY CHECKING FOR? 4 WEEKS IS A LONG TIME TO BE WAITING.......

YOUR BREATHING PROBLEMS MUST BE SCARY. NOT HAVING YOUR DOC LISTEN IS A HUGE PAIN IN THE BUTT. I KNOW, CUZ I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH "DEPRESSION" WHEN I WAS TIRED ALL THE TIME - WHAT A JOKE! IN FACT, I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE SURGERY MARCH 27TH TO DRAIN MY SINUSES - MY NEURO SAID I WOULD;NT HAVE MADE IT.

DO YOU HAVE ANYONE TO HELP YOU OUT? YOU MUST BE TIRED - TAKING CARE OF LITTLE ONES IS THE HARDEST JOB IN THE WORLD.......

I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON!

Default Thanks

I guess four to six weeks is the normal waiting time for muscle biopsy results.

Now my only problem is that the doctor said that if there was ANY bleeding I should call. Well one third of my bandage is covered with blood. I tried to call the number I had and it is just the scheduling line, not even and answering service, so I was going to call my GP tomorrow.

But as I'm typing this I realized da, the number to call is on the care sheet they sent me home with, actually there are two numbers, so I will call in the morning.

Oh and I can't take Advil or any asprin products because they are blood thinners.

My Hubby is here through Monday but then he's gone to classes all next week. I will get it figured out I'm sure.

You can take tylenol - like that helps - and keep your leg elevated. A heating pad may help with the pain or ice if you like that.
I would try to stay off the leg for a little while to give it a break. I had one done and yeah - it feels bizarre when they are in there cutting away. My cut is about 3 inches long and it was really deep. I went to a new year's party a few days after and was trying to stay away and be quiet and one of my husband's cousin's came and was joking around, came and sat on my lap. I screamed! I needed major pain killers after that.
But I really would rest and keep the leg up, and extended. Let no one sit on your lap.

Hey Kristie!

How are you today? Are you OK? Are you in a lot of pain? Isn't there anything you can take? Can your mom or someone come down and help you?My mom drives me nuts, but she has been AWESOME! I can't even imagine how hard it must be for you right now!

Let me know if there is anything I can do/say to help!

Take care!
Erin

Default I'm okay

Thank you for the concern, you're sweet.

I'm okay as long as I remember the Tylenol every four hours, keep the ice on it, and don't move much.

My hubby has been great, he bought lunch and made dinner, I only had to fix breakfast because he had to go to a fire call. There were five kids here today at one point. My two (ages 2 & 4), my niece(8), a neighbor kid (5, who's Dad had brain surgery recently) and a friends kid(I think 10).

They were all great and all except the two year old got to go out for quite a while. Then they played the Wii, played a few board games. My son needed to nap, but he wouldn't.

I slept in the recliner last night and my hubby slept on the couch so that he could get me anything I needed. Ah how sweet, but that's just how he is.

I tried to call the doctor that did the biopsy but they don't have an urgent phone line, only for during office hours. So I called my primary providers office and one of the doctors there called back.

His comment was to go get 4x4 gauze and an ace bandage, put that on there and apply pressure with the ace bandage. He said "It can't bleed THAT much". Uh okay but the doctor that did it said it shouldn't bleed at all, and if it did I was supposed to call.

Now I have to make sure and call the doctor who did the biopsy on Tuesday.

I'm going to try and sleep in my bed tonight. My Mom is only about three blocks away, but she works. We are very close and I wouldn't have any issues with her coming over to help, except that her health is also poor. My Dad on the other hand is on vacation for two weeks and I may need his help.

My hubby has a class for his re-cert hours for being an EMT tomorrow and class all week for the city. But I'm sure if I need him my Dad will help me.

I will get past this, just like everything else, but I will not re-do this test, ever. Now if you are the praying type, then you could pray that we get an answer out of this test, which is what I will be doing for the next month.

Thanks again for the offer for help and the concern.

Kristie

Thumbs up On it!

I am totally the praying type! Do it every day and night!

Your hubby sounds wonderful! aren't we lucky to have such special guys? The nurses are always amazed @ how sweet Mike is, but they never notice when the women take care of the men - funny, huh?

I am so glad to hear you are doing OK and have a great hubby! MG stinks - no question about it, so does MS, but it will be OK.....I am not being flippant, b/c I truly HATE having MG, but then I realize it could be much, much worse!

It will be GREAT when you finally have a diagnosis and can get started on meds...they will make all the difference! I have been bouncing off the walls for days now........feels GREAT!

I got *two* complementary ace bandages when I left the hospital - they wrapped my leg up and I had to keep it wrapped up well. I forgot about the ace bandages. My doc was somewhat of a hoot - they talk to keep you distracted and he was saying how they got the plastics guys to do this and how the anesthesia guys do not like undiagnosed neuro-muscular patients and that is why they do it under local now. That scar is one of my better looking ones - the rest of mine are hypertrophic and he told me I should not do anything about them or get any cosmetic surgery after looking at my history (dang!) as it would be better to be alive than pretty. But he did say he would do all he could to make his scar as pretty as possible.
I will be praying for you - and I hope that the ace bandages help. I found that the pressure helped. I wound a couple of them on.
