Default Side Effects of Mestinon??

Hello,

I was just wondering what side effects you guys have had on mestinon (pyridostigmine). I just got a prescription filled for it and wanted to know what to expect.

Has it helped you?

Also how long does it take for you to get the benefit out of it? Some things take a couple of weeks, some things the same day.

Thanks,
Kristy

Hi Kristy,

Mestinon worked for me within the first 20 minutes of taking my first pill. As far as side effects go, I'm on a pretty low dose (90 mg 3x per day) so don't really experience any. It can be hard on your stomach but isn't so bad if there's food in there too.

Thumbs up

I agree with Brian......I "felt" better within 20-30 minutes of taking Mestinon.

He is right about taking it with food - it can really tear up your tummy if you have an empty stomach..........I learned the hard way....

Mestinon = really, really good!

Hugs!
Erin

Thanks Brian & Erin!
I'm not as nervious about it now! The dosage is 60mg four times a day, so it shouldn't be bad either. I will take it with food I don't want to learn the hard way. Thanks for the tip!
I hope you both are well!

Hi Kristy,
Mestinon is indeed very quick in action, at the beginning not always as fast as Erin and Brian claim it… it also depends on your symptoms but remember that Mestinon doesn't cure the cause of the illness, it only masks the symptoms, like aspirin…
Do not take it on an empty stomach, that has been said and also, as a 60 mg Mestinon is effective during about 4 hours, take it regularly!
If you have difficulties during the night or in the morning, talk to your neuro about Timespan, a special kind of Mestinon(180 mg) which has a delayed effect during 12 hours, it is also more expensive…
Keep us informed of your progress.
Maurice.

Thumbs up Hello there!

I take the timespan @ night! Great stuff! Really great stuff!

I'm down to 2-3 a day of the 60 and then the "big boy" @ night......it makes all the difference!

Hang in there!

09 is gonna be a great year!

Default Hang in there - it does get BETTER!

Just wanted to check in and tell you IT DOES GET BETTER! I am finally feeling "sassy" ~ was able to work yesterday ~ man did that feel GREAT!

I'm taking my boys to the dr today - they've got some sort of virus..........

How is it going with the Mestinon? Are you "feeling" it quickly? I think it really depends on how weak we are when we take it......I know by the time I was finally dxed, I was so weak that chewing ice and swallowing it was almost impossible, somaybe that's why I felt it so quickly......and poor Brian has had fits with his health as well.............

Anyhoo - it does get better! 09 is gonna be a great year! A great year!
