Yes, I had horrific diarrhea. So my doctor had to write a script for me. I can't go to sleep at night unless I have my mestinon. I awake unable to breathe well with out it.
I also echo what others said about ask your neuro how you are suppose to take yours. Everyone is different. I took mine every 3 hrs, and sometimes every 2. So this is why it's so important to check with the nurse at his office.
Can't wait for you to see a Good Neuro.

Teeth Hi Leaningin!

Are you taking it with food or with food in your stomach? I learned by having an accident that food is the only thing that works - for me.....Are you able to swallow enough food to coat your stomach? If not, you need to be in the hospital NOW!!!!!!!

I am not trying to be a downer, but I do know that most MG''ers are type A and think we can handle anything, but if you are unable to swallow enough food to coat your tummy or are losing a lot of weight, you need to see someone ASAP!

Big, big hugs!
Erin

Erin,
This kind of reaction happened to me with Mestinon, and no amount of food helped me. Mestinon has a Lactose filler in it, and if you are lactose intolerant, it can really cause you some trouble. It all depends how sensitive your body is too it. I was constantly in the bathroom. It was awful.
My doctors prescribe Welcol tablets, and they help a lot.
There is also an alternative called MYTELASE. I just heard about it last week. It's been around since the 50's, but for some reason doesn't get much press. I'm going to ask my doctor about it in a couple weeks.
Love Lizzie

Default Atropine

The doctor prescribed atropine to reduce the cramping and other issues.

i TAKE MY MESTINON 60MG X 3 PER DAY. wITH MEALS AS OTHERS HAVE SUGGESTED. i WILL SAY SOME DAYS SEEMS JUST RIGHT, OTHER DAYS I HAVE SOME VERY MILD FEELINGS OF THE OLD SYMPTOMS AGAIN, bUT NOT ENOUGH TO BE BOTHERSOME. I SEE THE NUERO IN ABOUT 10 DAYS, AND AM GOING TO ASK.
I HAVE LISTENED TO SO MANY PEOPLE TALK OF HOW ONE DAY CAN BE BETTER THAN THE NEXT, THAT I HAVEN'T WORRIED MUCH ABOUT THAT. I DO HOPE THE MEDICINE IS NOT BECOMMING LESS EFFECTIVE. I HAVE HEARD PEOPLE TALK OF THIS ALSO. I HAVE BEEN ON IT FOR 3 MOS.
GOOD LUCK---FRED

I take my Mestinon shaken, not stirred

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I try to take it 4 hours apart except when I forget, then I take it with my six hour meds.

When I first started I needed food in my stomach. Lately, I've found I can take it without food, though i still try to eat when I can

Also, I noticed no one was willing to follow my rather bad joke. I'll be here all week (actually more than four weeks if my surgeon gets his way).

My neuro, I think, wants me to get back to doing stuff--even though my recent toe infection may change that as now she just wants me to rest. But my surgeon said no work until he sees me and he doesn't want to see me until sometime in September.

Well, there was the title of the thread...and then some more bait. So here's how I take it:

Here or there and everywhere.

In a hot house, (it's) the only way I won't grouse.

I can't from a box because I get it from my docs. Not Dr. Seuss, it's more like God Zeus.

But I am fainer to take it from a container. I'm only on full throttle with that Mestinon bottle.

In a car, near and far. On a train and in the rain.

I could and I would, on a boat -- and even better-- with an ice cream float.

I would like it even in a tree. Just with my Mestinon, let me be! Vitamin M must be part of my meal, or the effects of A-L, N-Z I can't even feel.

With my ice, I don't even think twice, (but with ice, if I twitch, that's a little hitch.)

In the light, before it's night. In the dark but not on a lark. Without food, whenever I'm in the mood.

You think you might not like it.
So you say.
Try it! Try it!
And you may.

I'm rhapsodic over something hygroscopic. It's just like ambrosia, so that goes to show ya!
