I think you should talk to your doc about how they suggest you split this 3 dose Rx up. They must have had something in mind when prescribing it that way, based on their understanding of your symptoms. Hope this helps.

I took mine four hours apart when first diagnosed - now I take 60 mg every 3 hours - like clockwork. I take one about 20 mins before I get out of bed in the morning and then every 3 hours. Thankfully I don't get an upset tummy from them so I don't need to worry about taking them with food. My best suggestion to you (other than speaking to your doctor) is to listen to your body. I could always feel my eye starting to droop or my arms starting to feel heavy.
Good luck! ~Kathy |

I take mine at 9 am, 4 pm and 11 pm. When I forget the 4 pm, I feel it at about 6 pm…
I therefore think that Mestinon should be taken when needed, try different schedules and keep the one which fits you best. It could also vary according to your activities… When I was on a 5 x 60 mg Mestinon schedule, I took also Timespan Mestinon during the day, although it is much more expensive, it can also be easily broken in two (i.e. 90 mg) and I appreciated that convenience when I needed to stay without medication for about 5 hrs during the afternoon (bridge tournaments, for instance…) Maurice. |

Ditto on the comment that you need to call your neuro. They are supposed to put the dosing instructions on the prescription!!! If he didn't, he needs to tell you what he wants you to do. You should NOT follow anyone else's way of taking Mestinon because everyone with MG is different. I am on 90+ mg every 3 hours, round the clock. Not a good idea for you to do that!

Annie,
All my bottle says., 3 times a day., that was it. I go back to this neuro on wednesday to get my ct results., and I just have to put up with him till I can get into the mg specialist who is booked till August , but they are trying to get me in earlier if there is a cancellation. This neuro just makes light of everything., I just do not feel comfortable., but I know I will only have to put up with him temporarily. |

Yes, I had horrific diarrhea. So my doctor had to write a script for me. I can't go to sleep at night unless I have my mestinon. I awake unable to breathe well with out it.
I also echo what others said about ask your neuro how you are suppose to take yours. Everyone is different. I took mine every 3 hrs, and sometimes every 2. So this is why it's so important to check with the nurse at his office. Can't wait for you to see a Good Neuro. Love Lizzie |

Are you taking it with food or with food in your stomach? I learned by having an accident that food is the only thing that works - for me.....Are you able to swallow enough food to coat your stomach? If not, you need to be in the hospital NOW!!!!!!!
I am not trying to be a downer, but I do know that most MG''ers are type A and think we can handle anything, but if you are unable to swallow enough food to coat your tummy or are losing a lot of weight, you need to see someone ASAP! Big, big hugs! Erin Quote:
