Default Hair Loss on Imuran??

Hi,

I was wondering about Imuran and hair loss as a side effect.
Do you lose a lot?
Is the hair loss with everyone or just some people?
Is the hair loss mainly at the hairline or all over the place?
My Doctor wants me to start with 50mg.

I have really long hair and have been concerned about this side effect. I love my hair and I'm nervous it will get thin..

Thanks!
Kristy

Smile Hi Kristy!

Hey hon! I really wouldn't worry about hair loss - I started @ 150 mgs of Imuran - still on it, in fact, and have not lost any hair @ all!

You must be really tiny, since I BELIEVE the dosage is based on weight.....I am a HOG now! 160 lbs!

Other than that, how are you?

Big Hugs!
Erin

Thumbs up Hi xmas~

Hey hon! That sounds like so much FUN! I'd love to have a pool! Esp in this HEAT!

I've been on Imuran for approx. 6 months now and haven't had any side effects ! It has been GREAT! I'm down to 20 mgs of pred daily, with hopes of going to 20 mgs every othe day - I'm soooooo excited!

When is your 1st grandbaby due? Is it a little boy or girl? I'm so happy for you! Sounds like you are going to be really busy!

Big hugs!
ERin

Hi Kirsty,
I'm not sure if my hair loss was due to my imuran or my pred, but it wasn't too bad. No one would know except me and my hairdresser. It was apparrent when I washed my hair and a lot would come out in my hands. It was mostly around the back of my hairline and especially where I wore my glasses. I've reduced my pred now and it's growing back (hence the reason I think it might have been the steroids). I wouldn't worry too much about it - like I said, from my experience no-one would know if I didn't show them. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hey Erin!

Thank you so much for the post! It helps a lot to see that you are not experiencing any side effects. I have always been learry of prescriptions, but with this condition I am having to suck it up and get over it.

Everything else is going well, just getting HOT! Summer hasn't even started yet, and I'm already looking forward to the end of September.

How is everything with you? I am so happy for you and the tapering down of steroids!

Hope you are well!

Thanks Kathy! It makes me feel better that it isn't very bad. It helps so much to have someone with experience to talk to!

Congratulations on the tapering down of steroids! That is great!

Smile Hi Kristy!

Just think of it like this; the Imuran may put you into lifelong REMISSION! Lifelong!

Picture it! You feeling 100% again!

It IS HOT here! I HATE it! I used to love the heat, but cannot tolerate it @ all anymore!

I am so happy about being @ 20 mgs - hopefully I'll look more "normal" - AKA no "chipmunk cheeks" LOL~

You are going to do just fine, sweetie! Hang in there!

Big hugs!
Erin
