Pat,
I am glad to hear you have seen improvement with fatigue and Ptosis with the mestinon. I will keep my fingers crossed if they put me on that I will get good results. I took your suggestion about the cool rag to the eyes, actually I used one of the gel packs that you refrigerate. It felt so good and did help with the Ptosis for a while! Thank you so much for that. I will do that when my eyes are really bothering me. Kendra |

Hello and WELCOME! My blurry vision and other problems did not go away until I started on the pred. For me it was a life altering decision. I went from not being able to walk, talk, eat, breathe (on several very scary occasions) to feeling sooooo much better!
Heat will wipe you out! Avoid it like the plague! Do everything you can to keep cool - your body will really appreciate it! In the meantime, please try and RELAX as much as you can. I know it's hard but you simply cannot push through MG - it will bite you in the butt! Hang in there - it does get better! Erin

Erin,
I have read several of your postings and you are awesome! To have gone through everything you have and still be so positive for everyone else! I truly admire that. I am glad we are almost through the worst of the summer heat. I have a pet sitting/ dog walking business and have to walk dogs regardless of the weather. I have not taken on any new clients that want dog walks only because I have noticed by the time I get home I am completely drained. On a different subject, I noticed that my posts are coming up as visitor instead of new member. Does anyone know if it takes a while for it to change over to member? Just curious. Thanks, Kendra |

Hi sweetie! Thanks so much!
Despite the MG, I have been so very blessed and REFUSE to become bitter. Once I realized how quickly I came to not seeing another day, I truly, fully embraced life! Plus, I am @ the hosp weekly for bloodwork and have met so many amazing and brave people that I just feel lucky. Don't get me wrong, I HATE MG. I wish I had never heard of it, but not a day or night goes by that I don't thank God for my life and tell everyone I love them. Goofy, but true! How many dogs do you walk? Do you have any? I have 5! I just love them! 3 poms, 1 chihuahua and a pit bull. They are all rescues. I was initially very afraid of owning a pit bull, but she has turned out to be my sweetest, most obedient dog. She is my son's and obeys his every command and is very bright. I would love to own more, but my saint of a hubby isn't really an animal person, so 5 is really pushing it! LOL! I think that my MG has been hardest on my family. My poor hubby and son have suffered the most. They had never seen me weak before and Devon - my son - still has anger issues. He is @ that terrible age of 17 and I've always been the one to "be there" so my being in the hospital so often really scared him, though he'll deny it if I ask. This really is the place to be for people with MG! We all have crappy days, but since we can all relate, no one gets their feelings hurt or is easily offended. If you DO have to take pred, it will help. Yes, there are side effects, but sometimes we just NEED it in order to function. Your neuro will try and get you off as soon as possible. I was up to 80 mgs daily @ one point and have gained weight (and I am self conscious about it) but would do EVERYTHING all over again just the same! Again, welcome! You are really going to love it here! Big hugs! Erin Quote:

Oh gosh yes I have a houseful of dogs! I do dog rescue and so not all of them are mine but right now I have 7 here. I have 3 pitbulls here right now and those are all mine! I LOVE the breed. I too used to be leary of them but they are such a misunderstood breed. I also have an American Bulldog, Border Collie mix, Schipperke mix and just a week and a half ago rescued a 7 month old Golden retriever mix that someone literally pushed out of the car because they said they couldn't afford to feed him anymore. So I have a full time job here at home also. I have a great husband who helps when he's home but he's an over the road truck driver and is gone most of the week and home on weekends. My hubby has been very understanding about all of this and I can tell he worries about me because it is not like me to lay around so much. My youngest son is 16 and I'm not sure he really gets it yet. If I am laying on the couch he will come in and ask me if I'm ok but I think he still doesn't fully understand what this is all about. If the Neuro thinks I need the Pred I will certainly give it a shot. I am just so scared of the side effects. I totally understand the weight concern you mentioned, that is one of my big concerns with it too. I am already so self concious of my eye I hate to think I may be self concious of my weight too. I have learned so much from everyone one here already and I look forward to learning even more and being able to share with others who are going through the same thing. Kendra |

Welcome Kendra!
I"m fairly new to the site, too - but just love how supportive and knowledgeable everyone is. It's so wonderful to be able to get info from folks who have more experience with this strange thing called MG. Terrific that you have been able to rescue - that is no small task. I have only one now, got her from Brittany rescue. What a lovely companion she has become. Take extra care in the hot weather -- drink tons of water even when you don't feel like it. Sue |

Hi Kendra,
I had terrible double vision and ptosis when first diagnosed. Mestinon helped a teeny bit, but I was in University at the time doing an honours English degree with an incredible amount of reading and paper-writing so I abused my eyes a lot. My eye-doctor gave me a prism to attach to my glasses - that helped a bit too (and has NO side-effects). That might be something to look into to help your vision problems without meds. My MG worsened a lot about two years ago and I was left with no option (in my mind) other than pred. It made a huge difference to my vision and now my eyes are my first indication if my MG is starting to flare up. I was home in Canada over the summer and we had a bit of a heatwave and my eyes were terrible for most of the visit. The minute I stepped out of the airport in the UK I felt better! Take care of yourself ~Kathy |
