Default Mestinon

Hi everybody, sorry I haven't posted in a while. I am wondering. I am on 1 and a half mestinon tablets 4 times a day, but I don't take it that much because I am worried it will keep me awake at night. Does it make anybody else feel a little like they had too much coffee? I am also taking 2 50 mg of imuran a day, and 2 prednisone every other day. Is this an unusual medication ritual for someone with MG?

Barbara, I wonder if it's the Pred that is making you feel "hyper" or awake. A lot of people can't sleep as well on Pred. I haven't taken Imuran so other people will have to help you out there.

Mestinon does not have a stimulant effect. In fact, I wake up in the middle of the night needing it to be able to sleep again.

When in doubt, talk to your neuro about all this.

Annie

I have taken Imuran for a long time and do not have the feeling you describe from that particular medication.
I am also asthmatic and have taken rounds of Prednisone for that even before my MG diagnosis. Steroids can keep you awake for days, especially when you first start them or first increase a dose.
If you feel like your muscles are all twitchy under the skin, that may be related to Mestinon.
Annie is absolutely correct when she suggests you speak with your neurologist about this.

Hey Barbara,

I only take mestinon and I don't get that side effect. I agree with Annie and Jenna about calling your neuro. Take care.

Hugs,
Pat

Smile Hi Barbara!

How are you today? Are you feeling better? Have you gotten in touch with your neuro yet?

Mestinon does not make me feel like I've had too much caffeine, but the pred really does - really does!

Sorry I can't help more!

Take care!
Erin

though it has other unpleasant side effects the mestinoin doesn't keep me up. i take 1 1/2 every 4 hours. keeps me nearly symptom free. the pred is the culprit. i'm taking 6 daily, my neuro advised to take all at once in the morning to allow it to wear off by sleep time.
