Unhappy Can I have some advice please??

My mother is 79 and is experiencing very swollen hands and arms. They are extremely painful, blotchy, red and burning hot. The pain is unbearable. It takes a couple of days for the swelling to go down. She has been investigated for stroke which was ruled out. Then blood clots, she is now referred to as a mystery.
The latest thought is gout? Can anyone offer any advice please the pain killers are not touching the pain?
