Confused Hoping to find some answers!

Hi Everyone!

I am new here, but I have been struggling with a problem for years and it seems to be getting worse. I am a 37 year old female. I also live in Florida but I am originally from Northern NJ. I am 5'9 and 140 lbs. I'm putting this in just so you have a general profile of me!

It all started with a herniated disc in my neck. I had the normal symptoms; Numbness and tingling in arms, inflammation, headaches, etc. I was treated for these symptoms as needed for 10 years.

Well, starting last year, I started to have bad throbbing pains in my hips and knees and numbness and tingling in my legs and feet as well as my arms. I also started having problems with my legs seizing up. I would have to stop walking for a minute or 2 then start again, but it would start doing it again.
Then, one day, I started running a 102 temp. I went to the hospital because I had a severe headache, muscle and joint pain, and numbness, etc...But no other symptoms of the flu. They did spinal taps, nerve conduction, etc. Said they weren't sure what was wrong, but it was obvious i had peripheral neuropathy.

Since then, life has sucked for me. I have chronic headaches that feel like I have lack of oxygen going to my brain, Jaw pain, throbbing ear pain in both my ears, double vision. My neck swells so bad it cuts off my carotid and jugular veins and they swell..almost look like grapes..Purple and round. My hips hurt terribly, especially when I am sleeping, I have almost constant numbness and tingling in my legs, now my knees swell and lock up. I cant walk long distances without my legs seizing up, I have permanently lost feeling in my pinky and ring finger as well as half my thumb on my right arm. My blood pressure has been up to 190/120..I never had HBP and this just started occurring in the last few months. Also, when my legs and hips are really bad, I seem to have issues with incontinence. I have had chest pains as well, but when I went to the hospital, even though my BP was high, they blew it off as spasms of my chest wall.

I seem like I am not taken seriously because I shouldn't have issues like this at my age and because of the one diagnosed problem I have, the neck herniation, they just say I am having a flare-up. In this day and age of prescription abuse, I feel like professionals think I am a pill seeker. This is not the case! I never have used narcotics except in emergencies or surgeries and work in pharmacy and try to avoid them as much as I can!

Sorry this is so long, but I want to know what dr would best fit my problem. Neurologists say they can not help and to go to a Neurosurgeon due to the neck problem and I just feel like no one knows what is wrong, so they just send me off to someone different each time. The MRIs I have gotten do show a pretty bad neck herniation at my C5-C6 and C6-C7, but I know ppl who have the same Old whiplash injuries like this and they dont have problems like mine. I also got an MRI on my lower back and I had a couple slight herniations and "multiple levels of Hypertrophy" in my pelvic bones?

Oh! And one more weird thing! I broke out on my chin 2 months ago with acne.Kind of like small little painful bumps. It is also not normal for me to get acne to begin with, but it wouldn't go away with anything I tried even antibiotic cream! I didn't pick at it or anything..I swear! But, overnight, it swelled really bad..so bad I couldn't eat or talk. I went to the ER again and had to have it drained. When they checked my blood work, they said my WBC was abnormally low..Could this be some kind of infection instead of disc issue? It is taking forever for it to heal, but I had no sugar problems, etc...
Could anyone possibly educate me on all this? I want to feel normal again!

Thanks to all who take some time to help me with this! The next time I go to the Dr, I want to be well informed and KNOW what tests and all I should be given so I can finally feel better!

Thanks again!
Robbyn

Have you had your thyroid checked? When you mentioned the acne it made me think something hormonal is going on.

Dear Robbyn,

Sorry you are feeling so bad. I've really got no idea, but I thought I'd add to someone's comment who mentioned your thyroid. When you get your thyroid checked, make sure to ask that they do ALL of the following:

1) TSH
2) FREE T3
3) FREE T4

Usually they only check the TSH, which can be normal in certain cases, even though the actual blood levels of the thyroid hormones are low. Magnesium about 600 mg a day and vitamin D3, 2000 mg a day are also very important for skeletal & nerve issues & inflammation. Gluten free & dairy free are both also good for getting inflammation under control.

Hope you feel better & that someone answers you...

Aimee
