Mid 2010 I started having issues with my left hand – cramping, stiffness and pain shooting up to my elbow.
I started seeing several Doctors late 2010 who did several tests including; MRI’s, X-rays, EMG and nerve tests. Nothing showing anything. The Docs were clueless so I just carried on with physical therapy and nothing was changing. By summer 2011 I could no longer extend my wrist up however I could still use my hand. I can’t lift a cup up to my mouth but I can hold a cup. I can make a fist but my grip is not strong. I decided to go see yet a different Doctor who started ordering more tests and again nothing show abnormal. Early 2012 my family started noticing a change in my walk, my right foot was slapping the ground. At this point I wasn’t thinking the two issues could be related and decided to just focus on my arm first then worry about my foot. I was having symptoms in my right leg, I noticed my calf was cramping a lot especially at night to the point I would have to jump out of the bed and I was constantly getting cramps in my right foot. February 2013 I decided to let my Doctor do the surgery and he discovered I had two trapped nerves, ulnar nerve and radial nerve. I was thinking okay great problem solved, physical therapy I can get focused on my foot. Well I was wrong, no change in the arm but the stiffness and cramping went away. At this point I’m thinking ok something is not right and I need some further testing. So I decided to see a different neurologists because the other one just did my tests and out the door I would go, no questions asked. This new one decided to actually listen to my concerns and ordered a serious of blood tests. He did the reflex tests and he said that was good, nothing abnormal. I asked him if he had seen things like this before and what could cause my issue. He said, vitamin deficiencies, diabetes, cancer and that was all he mentioned. So the blood tests showed I’m deficient in Vitamin B and Vitamin D. So now I’m on prescriptions for both but the neurologists has decided to send me to the neuromuscular department at the local university. He did perform a nerve test/emg on my right leg and said everything looked good except partial peroneal nerve damage. I am scared out of my mind because obviously researching my symptoms has lead me to this forum and I know researching your symptoms is bad. Other symptoms I’m having are muscle spasms in my right thigh and sometimes calf and my left arm near my elbow and now I’m starting to get cramps in my right hand. I noticed my walk is much better when I have the right shoes on, it was worse when I was trying to wear sandals. I can raise up on my right toes, but I can't lift my front foot up. I still workout on elliptical and I have no problems walking up stairs but my right calf is smaller then my left. The other day my 10 year old nephew asked me why my bone was poking out down my leg. I don’t’ know what is happening to me and my appointment at the University is next week. |
