Default Muscle pain from nerve damage?

Hello folks!

I’m on the journey to have my leg pain diagnosed ( severe muscle spasms, soreness, twitching- muscle soreness gets worse with walking, exercise)..
just wonder if this pain could be due to a compressed nerve or nerve damage?

I would really appreciate any feedback as the doctors have been very useless..

Thank you!

Wonder why you have such a need for a diagnosis, why not concentrate on getting relief. I would be living at doctor's offices for their answers. And not any further ahead than what I know to be my body and what I feel has gone on. The body is complex and we are all so unique and have been thru so many different experiences.

Hello Caroline!

I have been bugging my PCP and other docs to find relief - they do not know what could be causing this, therefore no way to give me that relief.
My frustration with the medical field has grown a lot in the past few years. They seem to Rx meds without the proper diagnosis..

Hi miss2000,
Sometimes doctors fail us because we haven't asked the right questions.

You might want to think back over what you've been doing recently--particularly just before you first noticed the pain and other problems. Do you think something might have triggered it?

Maybe you had a strenuous task to do? Might you have overused some body parts?

Tell the doctor about it if you think of something.

Or have you ever had any surgery affecting the area that is acting up--even areas near to it? Scar tissue can form as time goes by after surgery, and that can cause problems because if there's enough of it, it gets in the way.

Maybe these are subjects you've already covered with the doctors but just in case you haven't, those are my suggestions.
Looks as if scar tissue has been an issue you've explored here recently. I have two lumps of scar tissue from old surgeries, and they are probably responsible for some chronic problems I've been having for years. Surgery could remove the scar tissue, I understand, but I'd have to be far more miserable before I opted for surgery.

Also, have you added any medicines or supplements lately? Sometimes these can cause reactions--or can interact with other drugs you've been taking, even to the point of causing symptoms like yours.

Sometimes a diet deficiency--potassium too high or low, for instance--can cause the symptoms you're having. I hope that the doctors you've seen have done comprehensive blood tests.

Miss2000, That's right they don't know. If you had a surgery you could have complications from that job. If you've taken statins, there are issues from that class of drugs. I choose to "turn down" any of their drugs and MAYBE if I could afford and was guaranteed no side effects, I might buy into the Celebrex drug, but that's not the case. So I try things on my own. Plain and simple, doctors only do what they think might help. I'm sure they get plenty frustrated trying to heal their patients. And failing. We need to work on being our own doctors more and more.

Hello agate!

Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate you taking time to come up with suggestions! I’m sorry that you have been going through some pain as well!
Yes, the scar lump post injection is the only thing that I can think of, as because prior to this I never had any muscle issues in my legs and could walk with no problem. No other surgeries either. I did have a concussion last summer, but that’s about it.
My only hope is that the lump that formed will dissipate eventually. It’s been 3 months, and it seems things only have been getting worse. I have to sit down frequently to alleviate the muscle cramps and soreness in my leg .
The doctors I saw so far ( my PCP and general surgeon)do not recommend surgery so far, they don’t think my superficial lump causes the problem, but I think it does). Additionally, there is burning feeling radiating from the lump down my leg. I wonder if the needle caused the nerve damage and therefore all these symptoms..? Have you experienced anything similar around your scar tissue?

And I’m scared this will bring a permanent injury ( as a single mom, I am terrified to be this way till the rest of my days , as there is no family to help me here, and my ex. Has been no help) I’m sorry for a vent...

They rxd diclofenac and prednisone ; that helped right away, but as soon as I weaned of a week dose all symptoms came back.. so that was strange. I had to quit diclofenac due to stomach upset, too. I’m lenient taking Gabapentin due to sensitivity to drugs and being a teacher I need my mental focus every day ( so I guess have to choose between pain and focus)..

The only work-up I was able to get done was Ultrasound and ct scan (showed a lump mass and inflammation, and 1 cm cyst in the thigh), and CBC blood work twice. I’m waiting for EMG ( end of August only)..

That’s where I am.. what are your symptoms from lumpy scar tissue? What seemed to help?

Caroline, you are so right!
We do need to be our own doctors more and more. It is so frustrating to turn to them in desperate need and trust them your previous health, and at the end not to have any help at all..
It seems as if any one could be a doctor nowadays - with the help of computer.

I saw you have mentioned grape seed extract before. Do you mind explaining what it helps you with, what kind you buy and how much you take?
Thank you!!

I forgot to add, that I am like you tend to turn down their drugs as well! In the past I had a severe allergic reaction to nortriptyline for example.

I have the impression that scar tissue doesn't just go away, unfortunately. We're lucky if more of it doesn't form, I guess, and we're stuck with coping with the scar tissue that is already there.

When I was having physical therapy for sciatica, the PT discovered a knot of scar tissue in my left hip, where I had had surgery (at age 8). We agreed that if I could deal with the sciatica with physical therapy and other measures, like not overexerting, that would be better than surgery to remove the
scar tissue. This was about 12 years ago, and I've had more PT since then but so far the situation hasn't got so bad that I'd be interested in surgery.

The other scar tissue was discovered by my dentist when doing a routine neck exam. I had had surgery on the right side of my neck (removal of a parotid gland) about 25 years before, and the dentist was sure that that is what the lump is. I'm watching it and aware that it is probably giving me some swallowing problems but aside from that, it just sits there. Again, the recommendation was just being vigilant and making sure there were no changes in it. The dentist found that scar tissue about 15 years ago, and so with both of these lumps, a lot of time has passed with no new developments except that they cause me some inconvenience and discomfort.

Agate,thank you for your reply!

Sounds like the scar tissue doesn’t cause you much pain, more like discomfort? Yeah, then no need to worry about it. They tried ultrasound therapy to break mine up, and i think it aggravated the nearby nerve even more .. no PT for me ..
