What can they find if they run a blood panel for your concussion?

Good question. You got me. I tried the Google way but didn't get a answer. Maybe they're checking your levels for a baseline. Medication can cause your liver problems Maybe they're look out for that. And you kind of went without medical attention. Remember? May be looking for something else? Can indicate a lot. Lots of times it's routine to get blood tests. Results can also rule out other potential causes for some or all of your symptoms. It will be good news if you're within normal limits. Just a few thoughts. Keep asking. ask your doc if you have to. They're usually good at explaining the need for tests. Brain injury takes special attention... make sure you're getting enough rest, ok? |

How can speech therapy help? I went to the doctor and they are talking about doing speech therapy

Is it just for an evaluation?
Maybe it's a subtle speech thing they recognize and want to correct it for you. It certainly can be overwhelming. Sounds like they're being thorough. Better that than get ignored. ;) |
Speech Issues
Hi Soccer,
Speech issues are not uncommon after a concussion. I take speech therapy for a number of problems caused by my TBI, including stuttering and aphasia (saying one word when I mean another). The stuttering I hear, but I'm largely oblivious to the aphasia. Don't be too proud to go to speech therapy. It's helped me a lot and, provided I'm rested and not rushed, I'm starting to feel more confident about talking. I also take cognitive therapy to help with my concentration, etc... Frankly, I'll try any therapy that might help improve my functioning. |

the neuro-psych eval showed that i am impaired and below average post injury at retaining verbal information. though visually i now have superior recognition.
.... i was referred to speech therapy with the explanation that it assists to retrain the brain after injury. not only for the sake of speech correction. i presume that your physicians are recognizing similar impairments in your ability to discern, retain, and convey audio information and the speech therapy is akin to physical therapy, work that brain muscle :) ! |
