Default mdds

I am a 54 year old female who was just diagnosed with mdds. Went on a 7 day cruise on 2/6/10 and used scopolimine patch for motion sickness. Since I have returned I have had constant swaying motion. Interested if anyone else is farmiliar with this syndrome and has used this patch.

Welcome roadrunner. I'm fairly new to this forum myself, and learning more every day.

My mother had MdDS. She was diagnosed in 2005 after a cruise. It took almost 5 months for her to be diagnosed, and I know how difficult it was for her to deal with. So I know a little of what you are going through.

I don't think it has anything to do with the patch you used. Before the onset of MdDS, my parents had been on numerous cruises. They planned their retirement to travel - had been through the Panama Canal, to Canada, on the Rivers in Europe, Alaska, etc. The Panama Canal trip was 3-weeks long. She had never used a motion-sickness patch. And all of a sudden after a 5-day cruise she walked off the ship and never stopped rocking.

As you probably already know, motion stops the rocking. She loves car trips, because the rocking stops. They have gone through the Panama Canal again. They chose the trip purposely, just so she could enjoy 3 weeks without rocking.

She said that she kept remembering the song "What do you do with a drunken sailor". She decided they weren't drunk - they had MdDS.

Then about 5 months ago, she was tested for Vitamin D deficiency because of pain she was having in the joints of her hands. She was deficient. Funny thing was that after she started Vitamin D treatments the rocking stopped.

They say that MdDS can stop as quickly as it starts. It may be coincidence. It may be the Vitamin D. You might want to ask your doctor to test for that.

Look forward to seeing you around.

Welcome to NT

So sorry you're having motion sickness like that. Must be awful.

Hope you get better soon and hope it is just a Vit D deficiency.

Welcome to NeuroTalk! I had actually never heard of this condition so I did a little research on it. I learned something new! I'm so sorry you're having to experience this syndrome.

I have MS so I can relate to some of the sensory symptoms you've had with MDDS and feeling unbalanced. Have you tried any motion sickness meds yet? They might help with the symptoms. I hope you get some relief soon.

Hi. I had to look up mdds.

I found this (I'm sure you know all about this, but I wanted to share some info on this malady)

http://www.mdds.org.uk/

Honestly, I never knew that a person could go on a cruise and have problems getting their land legs back.

Like when you go on a merry-go-round and everything is spinning, but when you get off, in a few minutes, all is well, BUT IN YOUR CASE, ALL IS NOT WELL.

I will poke around some more on the internet and if I find ANYTHING that can help you, I'll be sure and post it.

I am so sorry you have to endure this vertigo kind of living.

Not fun, I can imagine.

You are in my thoughts.

Melody

Hi, I just found this website. If you haven't checked this out, give it a go.
