Default Hello I'm a Newby and I need some help.

Back In May I felt a tightness around my neck so I went to my doctor, she sent me for a ultrascan on my neck and it showed a nogule on my thyroid, then she sent me to a specialist and had a FNA done no cancer in that nogule but they wanted me to go for a CT scan that showed two nogules one on the right in front, and one in the back on the left. Ok they sent me to a surgeon for this problem,he told me he didnt think the feeling of choaking is just from the thyroid so he wanted me to have a MRI which showed a large bone spur at the c6&7 and smaller ones at c4&5. Then this surgeon sent me to see a nerosurgeon to see if he would take care of the bone spurs at the same time as he would remove the thyroid, after I went to all the doctors and got the approval of the nerosurgeon to do both at the same time so I only have one surgery one recovery, I went back to the first surgeon and he said then that he could not do it at the same time because they dont practice at the same hospitals. Then he went on to say if I would go to another thyroid doctor and get her to agree that it would be a good idea to remove the thyroid then he would ask an associate of his to go to the hospital that the nerosurgeon practices and have it done together. So now six months later I've been to the other doctor, had a thyroid scan done to see if anything at all has changed if so she would say yes but if not she said she would have to say no at this time and keep watching it. Now I dont know what will happen about the spurs if she doesn't reccommend the thyroid surgery.
I've been reading alot on here today about people getting fusions done and they are in more pain after then before. I'm not in actual pain now it just feels like there is a large glob in my throat all the time, when I eat I feel like i'm going to choke, when I move my head I feel it. I dont know if I want to exchange pain for the feeling I'm having but it is so annoying to constantly feel this glob in my throat. I'm confused and very tried on not feeling good.

Hi welcome to NT. Glad you found us. I am so sorry to hear the confusing run around. Lots of time to second guess every thought makes it worse sometimes. It takes courage to not act when we just want it to go away.

Waiting until more complete information becomes clear can be useful in the end. I hope you look to another opinion from a hospital/center which has a expertise/specialty in this kind of procedure. Some research is likely warranted since the most simple practicalities are slowing the process.

Some doctors are more able to advocate for us than others and it can be our panicky reaction to a problem, that can lead to worse problems down the road. For instance from what little I know, the parathyroid glands are right next to of the thyroid structure. If they are injured the calcium pathways are damaged. It takes some skill to preserve them and remove the thyroid safely. I have no information regarding the cervical surgery. It sounds tough in any case. Good luck in getting some clarity and resolution soon. The medical system does move slowly at times. Glad to hear you are not in pain in the meantime, that is a blessing. Keep asking for help everywhere and you will find it. Best wishes TT

Default Finally an answer!!

Well I now have an answer to the surgery Endo says yes my thyroid should come out it is now enlarged with yet another nogule after the scan. While I was in the endo's office she called the surgeon ans told him to schedule the surgeries after the first of the year. Well now all I have to do is wait for them to tell me when and where. I sure hope it doesn't take another eight months.

Thank You all for your support I find it very comforting to vent to someone that at least listens. My family has no idea what I'm going thru.

Thanks Again
Donna
