One might also consider bipolar disorders as well as this may also create mood swings. Sometimes one has a predisposition for the disorder and something may trigger full blown manic or depressed episodes. In that case antidepressants are not going to help. If you have gotten your antidepressants from your GP, I would recommend going to a Psychiatrist to get an evaluation. Since depression is so commonly treated by GP's, often more complicated diagnosis are overlooked.
Good luck in your pursuit of a solution.

BEST!

aint it the truth, lol.....have you always been a little edgy/mood swings?
if so, menapause may have been the trigger for full blown BD....sleep deprivation also may be an issue.....are you a "sandwich" generation member?
that stress on top of others...which ever doc you can get into first, between psych and endo, just make sure you get to both...

Hi, and Welcome.

I think PABB nailed it. There are hormones afoot here. All your mood swings indicate this.

Go and see an endocrinologist.

Doctors will often say "Oh, it's all in your mind".

It's not ALL IN OUR MIND. Sometimes, IT'S ALL IN OUR HORMONES.

Again, welcome to Neurotalks.

I hope you get your answers.

Take a deep breath, find something you like to do, and go and do it.

Sometimes we have to put ourselves first.

It's hard, but it's necessary.

Stress can kill you.

Take care,

Melody

I am a male and had a B12 deficiency as well as an iron deficiency and they caused mood swings, depression, anxiety as well as difficulty concentrating. I could not read a paragraph without feeling like skipping over it and reading retention was just about gone. I was also irritable and would snap very easily at people or not act like myself as well as losing interest in things I always cared about.

I can imagine a hormonal disorder causing these same things.

The human body is crazy I tells ya CRAZY!

So, are you upping your B-12 (take the Methyl b-12 form of it), and how's your iron?

I agree with David. I don't feel every GP is qualified to deal with this situation. In addition to drug therapy, can any "talk" therapy with a qualified psychiatrist be arranged? IMHO.
