Laugh Thank God for the Internet!:-)

I wanted to stop in and introduce myself to you fine folks here at Neurotalk. I found my way here while searching out information on vitamin D deficiency (a recent test had me at 4.5) and ended up linking to a thread mrsD started “New Medical Video on Vit D:” I’ve been clicking around like crazy since.

I am a 32yo husband and father of a 16 month old future marathon runner In 2007 I developed osteo-necrosis in both femoral heads and had bi-lateral Free Vascularized Fibular Grafts in attempt to save my natural hips. About a year later the necrosis started to progress rapidly and had fracture in one femoral head and partial collapse in the other before I could find a doctor willing to do total hip replacement. Those were done in October and November 2008 and I worked really hard to get off crutches in time for the birth of our first child in January. He was born on my 32nd birthday and is the best physical therapy partner a guy could ask for. I still work full time and I am terrified I won’t be able to keep working or I’ll lose my job because off my health problems.

After the necrosis diagnosis, I started working with a pain management doctor and my long term goal for the last 3 years has been to taper off the CP meds and to be done with them. As the dose was lowered a lot of hidden pain and strange sensations started becoming more noticeable. After the dose had been cut by about half from the peak, I couldn’t manage the pain, work, and home responsibilities anymore and have been at that dose for around 6 months.

During that time the strange feelings and pain have increased in frequency and severity to where it was affecting every aspect of my life. My wife got me to the doctor after I began having episodes where I couldn’t make myself swallow. The doctors kept saying neuropathy so I made an appointment with a neurologist and started reading. My first appointment with the Neurologist is on Tuesday and I want try to come up with all the questions I couldn’t possibly know to ask.

Sorry for the long intro but it doesn’t feel right reading other people’s health and personal lives without anteing up a bit of my life and I will end with that… for now

Hi Hobblehips:

Just wanted to say HI and welcome to Neurotalks. Your marathon running baby sounds like a dream.

Babies are SO healing. They just smile and coo at you and you go all mush.

The other day, the girl around the corner brought out her 5 month old baby. She has these toes, that I wanted to eat her up. She had this head band thing around her little head and it had little roses on it.

We all went AAAAAWWWWWWW!!! and she started giggling. Then we all went AAAAAWWWWW again.

I never went AAAAWWW so much in my life. But these little babies are to die for.

They help us forget our pain, if even for a short time.

Hey, whatever works.

I hope your neuro visit goes well, and that you can become pain free.

I really do wish this for you. You are in my prayers.

Take care,

Melody

Welcome to NeuroTalk! That is quite a challenge you have before you! Both the baby and the Vit D deficiency.

I hope you turn around quickly now. And there are new guidelines for babies too!

Thank you for the warm welcome people!

Twinkletoes, the signature quote is classic! Here is the 2002 winner for the world’s worst writer awards.
On reflection, Angela perceived that her relationship with Tom had always been rocky, not quite a roller-coaster ride but more like when the toilet-paper roll gets a little squashed so it hangs crooked and every time you pull some off you can hear the rest going bumpity-bumpity in its holder until you go nuts and push it back into shape, a degree of annoyance that Angela had now almost attained.”

Melody, your dancing daisy gif cracks me up. My wife and I love to garden and we recently bought a house with a yard. The back is terraced and the first four feet of each level is a garden bed. This allows me to stand upright and do the work instead of trying to kneel or squat. From the looks of everyone’s sig lines and avatars y’all like plants and flowers also.

I met with the neurologist today and he seemed about as confused as I am. He scheduled an EMG next Monday followed by a MRI to look for bulging discs. Then onto the cardiologist to see if the secondary cardiomyopathy I suffered in 2005 is causing problems. Will wrap up the day in the pulmonary department being evaluated and scheduling a sleep study. It’s going to be a long day but better than stretching them out over a month.
Again thanks for welcoming me and I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers. I'll post a picture as soon as I meet the ten post requirement

Gratefully,
HobbleHips

You like to garden??? Oh, how cool. I LOVE TO SPROUT.
I grow most of my food, in my kitchen on a shelf that I put together, and I have trays and trays of my sprouts.

Here's a link to one of my videos on youtube. If you know how to use youtube, then you can find ALL OF MY OTHER VIDEOS. If not, just let me know, I'll link you to them.

I sprout lots of stuff. Here's the fenugreek video.
