Frown Frustrated & Feeling Like No One Else Understands

Hi All!
I had my first appointment with pain management today and was treated like a complete addict after saving for months for this expensive first visit. My PCP has made efforts to treat my chronic condition for 18 months now....to no avail.

I finally had the money, made the appointment a month ago, & was prepared with MRI (which shows 2 bulging disc neck and back). I ended up seeing a nurse practitioner who conducted my initial visit and prescribed my meds.....not the doctor who I paid to see...which I ended up not getting filled b/c they said I should have meds left from my PCP (which wasn't enough). I am 8 days early and don't understand since there was an increase on my meds.

I've had a rotten day and it doesn't seem that others understand the level of pain I have. Thus, I turn to this support group.

Thank you for having me.

Default Welcome Cdr

So sorry you are faced with this frustration and left to feel this way after your first visit. Being in pain leaves us feeling desperate for relief.
Sometimes it takes a while to build a trusting relationship with a Dr who prescribes controlled meds.
You had the MRI's showing your pain issues though

Feel free to check out the Chronic pain forum or Spinal/Neck issues.....
There are probably some good suggestions on how to cope with this type of pain.....

It's good you've come to NT.....there is alot of support here

Default Iagree with no one understands

I told myself not to talk to myPCP about my chronic pain because there is nothing she can do to help. I always end up angry because she says go to a pain clinic. I have been to a painc clinic and feel like a number. I think after awhile the staff becomes numb to people in pain. Nothing helps neuropathy nerve pain. I know my anger is displaced but I don;t know where to direct it or how to get rid of it. I am angry this has happened to me. I quit my job because the drug medication put me in a fog and I can't think. I have 5 years until I can get medicare. Is there no hope? I;m having a bad day as well.

Default I understand

I have had the same problems at pain clinics.I do not think anyone knows how bad this hurts untill you actually feel it.The brachial plexus nerves around a cervical rib become irritated.I have spent years trying to feel better, and there is nothing worse than being treated badly by health professionals who are supposed to be helping us and not judging us.But its thier bad. Heaalth professionals job is not to judge, but to try to understnd and be kind.We have already been through hell over an over and dont need any more pain!especially emotional pain caused by judgemental health professionals.it feels horrible.i have been through this.Dont let it get you down, they are just not very intellegent, and they dont pay your bills. We are thier boss, they work for us the patient,WE PAY THEM.So keep your head help high and work hard to recover.I got alot better by having traction to reset my cervical vertebra that were all out of place dut to the birth defect.Take care, and remember to love yourself alot cause you deserve it for your strength and courage!
