Confused My husband has peripheral neuropathy

Hi, my name isEsther and my husband has been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. I am very worried because he is now using a walker, he can't barely walk and he has fallen twice. I am afraid that he may become an invalid. What is the prognosis for this disease? I know that there is no cure, but what is going to happen to him? Does anyone know?::

Default There are so many varieties of peripheral neuropathy--

--from at least 200 known causes, plus there are many "idiopathic", or syndromes from unknown causes, that it's really hard to say without a lot more information.

Come on over to the peripheral neuropathy forum--

--if you haven't already, and give us a detailed description of how this all came on for your husband, what kind of doctors he's seen, testing he's had, anything you know, really, and with the expertise over there we should be able to help you out.

The fact that you said he's using a walker implies there is either numbness in his extremities, or a balance problem, or problems with the motor nerves, and all can happen with neuropathy, but they can come from very different etiologies, so the history of the problem makes a difference when discussing treatments/prognosis.
