Smile Hi BigPapi!

And a big ol' welcome to NeuroTalk! I don't know about whether or not you should stick with this doc if he's not doing you any good. I don't understand his philosophy about illness and pain. If you have no skeletal hot-spots, the only thing you need or that will work is PT? I'm like you, I can see the obvious benefit of getting exercise. Being more mobile and having the rest of your body be more fit. But what if that's not enough?

My condition is currently undiagnosed, but the latest pet theory is that I may have some rare muscle-wasting illness. I do moderate exercise as best I can to stay in shape. But if I try PT, my muscles go into spasms, and these flares can last for 2-4 weeks, so it's something I have to be careful about.

I definitely wouldn't stay just because I know his wife. I'd decide what I thought was best for me and do it, as I'm sure you'll eventually do. All I can do is wish you the best of luck in getting better and more pain-free than you are today.

Best Wishes,
Idealist

Default

there are many kinds of more alternative therapies- too.
chiropractic??, low level laser, electric stim{ TENS, INF, MUSCLE}, near/far infrared, to name some of the more common.

there are some good sites on Homeopathic medicines.

Triggerpoint, different massage techniques, reflexology, acupuncture, whole body work- like Alexander, somatics

I would really look for a doc that will expand his knowledge base and look for more or newer methods for pain relief.
this guy sounds like he does not care to learn new things.
{closed minded}
On the Thoracic Outlet Forum there are links for almost all of these topics in our useful sticky.

Default Trying not to be negative...

...but it sounds like he is a quack. I went to one nuerologist who, I could tell this guy was just getting by, I left thinking, that if that is all I could offer of wanted to do, then I need to go to Med school, accept all Ins that I could and put out a sign. Go see someone else.

Default I know your frustration

Hi,
Sorry about your pain. I can feel your frustration.

I think that the first thing you have to do is find a Doctor that is willing to give you a diagnose of what he /she thinks you have. Ask this Doctor your seeing, if no answer then try another Doctor, keep trying different Doctors until you get a diagnoses. Or at least, A Doctor willing to search. Have you tried using Google.com to search for your symptoms? Try the medical websites too. Your going to have to do some work to find the right Doctor to get the right diagnoses. Otherwise your just spinning your wheels.

I know your frustration because I went through it too. I was finally diagnosed with C.R.P.S. which is the new term for R.S.D or R.S.D.S. which was the new term for Causalgia? or Casulagia? (something like that). Basically this syndrome has been documented well since the civil war but a lot of Doctors still are not aware of it. Unfortunately, it took me about 3-4 years to get diagnosed for it. Several Doctors later. But, I suffered way too much during that time and it still makes me angry. I came so close to killing myself so many times... I truly believe some Doctors like to see people in pain. It goes back to that old wounded soldier on the beach mentality. "If your in pain, your still alive". Or they are just masochistic personality's and they're enjoying their job instead of taking it home.

Once I finally got my diagnose I could finally relax a bit, it's terrible wondering if your insane and that the pain is just a figment of insanity. After I was diagnosed, my insecurity & depression left, I could then try what others had tried to get better. I had purpose again.

Best of luck to you.
