Default Neurontin Withdrawal

Hi There,

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and put on Gabapentin 300mg, 3 times a day at first for like 4 months. Then, dosage increased to 1200mg per day for like 4 months. For the past 4 or 5 months, I've been on 1800mg per day.

I don't have a doctor currently due to financial reasons. Well, I ran out of Gaba last night. I don't want to be on this medication anymore anyways. I feel like it made me a zombie, like I can't feel my feelings or something. I can not even react to things like surprises, other people's feelings, etc properly.

I guess what I want to know is, am I going to be OK detoxing off of this stuff? I mean, will I die? lol I'm prepared for the side effects . . . I'll do it because I hate the stuff.

I do have Flexeril and Vicodin if I need them for withdrawal. Very low doses as I'm sensitive to medications. I also take Welbutrin every day so I thought maybe that will help with some of the withdrawal.

Thanks for the support.

I take Neurontin too and at one point had been on 2700 mg/day. After I got my stimulator I abruptly decreased the dose to 900 at night only and didn't suffer any ill effects.Sometimes I don't even take it. That's the beauty of that med. If you're unsure you can call a pharmacist.

Take care,

Rhonda

It's good to have you!
You and I take the same meds. I noticed when I was first taking Neurontin, I became very depressed.....and started having very 'dark' thoughts, sorta like suicidal ideation....just basically feeling like this was going to be my last few months alive.....very sad indeed, as I'm only 47 and I have a beautiful family.

I'd be very careful with this if I were you. At least keep of journal of sorts, so you can keep track of which med you took, the dosage, which days you lowered....etc. Monitor your moods...
I've taken Wellbutrin for 15 yrs.... and at one point decided (on my own) to cut my dose in half because I thought I could do without it and I was wanting to save money. Not good. I had unpredictable mood swings.
It can be dangerous. After all, Wellbutrin and Neurontin are meds that have been known to cause seizure-like side effects.

Just please be careful.

Truly Caring,
Rae

It is VERY DANGEROUS to cold-turkey off of NEURONTIN. You could have seizures ~ this is something that you should NEVER do -- run out!

You need to be seen by a doctor or perhaps go to the ER. Don't wait until you HAVE a seizure!! If you were on that high of a dosage, this could be very dangerous.

Try to get in to any doctor NOW -- or go to the ER and explain what happened. You need to WEAN OFF of Neurontin -- they need to give you enough to be able to do this. Please let us know how you come out!! god bless. Hugs, Lee

I've already made the decision to cold turkey. I haven't had any Neurontin for 36 hours. Last night, I did have a terrible time sleeping, had night sweating and the shakes. Tremors, muscle spasms and some pain. I did have some really bad shakes last night, but found that propping in a fetal sitting position on the couch with a bunch of pillows around me helped me get some uninterrupted rest and was able to go in the bed mid morning.

Today, I woke up feeling a million times better and SO clear headed. I feel like a black cloud was lifted. I've been taking Flexeril to help, drinking lots of water with EmergenC packs, and taking hot baths.

I too have been having a lot of suicidal ideations. I would never act upon them, but I didn't know the Neurontin causes stuff like that. I've never had thoughts like that before. I've decided to continue with the Welbutrin. I have a bunch of refills left on that. Plus, it will help this detox be easier on me. I will taper off of that later with a doctor.

But anyway, I feel a ton better, and it's great.

Not only that but I realized that before taking the Neurontin, I never had any of these problems, paresthesia, dizziness constantly, feeling like a zombie, super depression, I had GI problems but not as bad as getting diagnosed with Colitis months after I was put on the stuff, all kinds of things. I was put on Neurontin initially for the pain and all of this crap came along with it.

I can manage pain with exercise and vitamins. I'm convinced.

I knew the detox wouldn't be dangerous. I asked Jesus to walk me through it and I trust Him
