Default Idiopathic PN and fatigue

Does anyone else feel totally fatigued with their neuropthy and is that normal? I am as tired when I get up as I was when I went to bed. I have noticed in the past few months climbing stairs , or walking uphill wipes me totally out. My legs jerk quite a bit trying to go to sleep, so I don't know if that continues the rest of the night or not. I would nap at 10 and nap again at 2 if I could arrange my schedule to have that happen, but I still work. I have been under lots of stress - so I don't know if that is the cause. I've had PN for 6 years. I'm not taking any meds for the neuropathy because they just zonked me totally out, so that can't be the cause of the fatigue.

Hi there.

Stress can be a killer. Do you have family support that can help you handle the stress? I just wanted to stop by, say hi and send warm thoughts your way.

Sometimes just knowing that we can't change certain things and we have to deal with the stuff, well, it CAN be overwhelming. Just know you are not alone. Lots of us have stuff to deal with. Not a lot of fun, I know.

Sending positive energy your way.

Take care

Melody

Have you ever been worked up for autoimmune disease? Fatigue is hallmark of many AI disease and PN presenting first is not uncommon. Do you have any other symptoms?

Thanks for your comments - yes, I've had lots of symptoms - but the fatigue has just started in the last few months. My feet are mostly numb at this point, one worse than the other, and the shooting sensations that started in my feet are now in my lower legs. It's in my hands also both have been operated on (for carpal tunnel -they thought). My blood pressure fluctuates from day to day. I cut out all caffeine - I thought it might be causing some of the pain. I've lived with it for so long, my body kinda shuts it out when I'm up and going, but when I stop to rest, or I take my shoes off and try to walk - it just grabs me.

The fatique is the worst. I believe the body works hard to maintain a balance and that even minor things can throw us off and make our body work harder, concentrating on repairing, expending energy that way. I used to laugh when people told me you could get sick from a chill, then learned that the immune system and body as a whole has to work to maintain body temperature and thus neglects its defense against illness.

I am much better after several months of supplements recommended by mrdD. You may find many things will increase the fatigue, including medications. I was waking up in the middle of the night feeling absolutely crushed by fatigue, finally got over it only to go on short course prednisone and start lyrica. BAM, can barely walk nap time. I never nap, but my neuro says about activity...if it hurts stop, if your tired rest. I have been pushing myself not to give in, so I will now give myself the luxury of rest.

good day
it seem as if it isn't one thing it's another
sorry 2 hear u being robbed from just everyday activities
how it hits u when u are still
how it hits us the moment we relax
my experience is similar 2 many
and, YES, without a doubt the #1 killer is STRESS
anything that could potentially be underlying, will eventually catches up, and follows till breakdown of the body slowly begins 2 follow, if that should make any sense
as for myself diagnosed with an array of ailments in hind sight
my body was talking 2 me
being divorced over 15 years now, having ocd, and perceived 2 be super mom by 4 children.
working on my feet all my life certainly had 2 be one of the many factors
what i would like 2 also convey is listen "closely" 2 your body
take care of yourself and rest when you must
having PN, fibromyalgia, 2 cervical neck surgeries that put me in a terrible state
but, with the help of a few of my doctors found the right dose of meds that allows me to sleep thru the night, they are not sleep meds
my pain meds have been changed
i was on lyrica and had 2 stop taking it (side effects)
i can't say it enough " listen closely 2 your body"

wishing u time without pain so u may rest
i do understand NOW how important how a good night is
catch it when u can
