I had a VP shunt that was placed on the 18th of October today is the 21st of October...I was able to come home after 1 night stay in hospital...When I finally able to take a shower I saw this brusing on my right breast (inner side of breats) not between the breast but on the breast...the brusing, when touched lightly, you can feel what I think is the shunt tubing...do they run this tubing through your breast? I was thinking not...I want to call my neuro surgeons office but I dont want to sound like I am being a baby and this is just normal...as I was thinking the tubing would go down around the right side of my neck through my lung area and then drain in the abdomen...so when I think of how I was told about how the tubing was placed I would not have thought my breast would be a place I would feel the shunt...someone please inform me if this is a normal position of the tubing...

Make yourself at home here and I'm sure you will find others who can chime in on your question.
Look thru the forums and find the ones that might have the info you are looking for.
There is a helpful feature here that I use quite often. You'll see toward the top of the screen a 'search' tab. Click on that and type in key words. It'll bring up posts that might be of help.

You are not being a baby! You should call your doctor right now! I do not have personal experience with a shunt, but I did have major spinal surgery so I know what I'm talking about when I say that your doctor is your most valuable resource! The people on this site are great, but your doctor is the only one who was there preforming the procedure. He (or she) is the one to ask any and all questions you have. It is 100% OK to ask "stupid" questions. Don't hold off asking an important question just because you're afraid it will be perceived as wimpy or dumb. I promise you no one at your doctor's office will think less of you for calling and asking. Remember, it is you who is ultimately responsible for your health.

Thanks for the replies. I did call the doctor and they said it was normal...the pain would go away over time and I just had surgery so try and rest as much as possible...so I did just that...then today....was a different story...I woke up fine...no pain...went to work and within about an hour I got severly dizzy just sitting at my desk...a co worker came over and helped me to the rest room (as I was getting sick and then they drove me home as I thought daughter was off today and could come and stay with me..but she was working..I stayed laying on the couch and everything kept spinning (I have been dizzy before but nothing this severe) I was terrified as I live alone..and everyone I knew was at work..the room would not stop moving and I was having to crawl to bathroom to get sick...I ended up calling 911...Went to ER and they did a CT scan...my ventricles looked fine...ended up diagnosing me with LABYRINTHITIS...inner ear inflammation...My surgery was just a little over a week ago for the VP shunt and the shunt was inserted above and behind my right ear...so I am sure it is still inflammed...I am aggravated that NO ONE even told me that this might even happen...and to think of the pain I was having in my head and ear at the begginning of the week and being chalked up to..."It is normal"...For me..I would rather they take this shunt out and shove it...I had no clue my life was going to change like this...I thought my life was bad before shunt and was scared of losing my vision..and tired of headaches...and did not feel like I had lost qulaity of life I had before...but this just takes all the quality of life away...does it get better? Why in the heck did my neuro surgeon advise me of the possible issues I might have after the surgery...Seriously...you should read my discharge papers from the hospital...they are so vague...walk as tolerated..do not lift over 10 pounds..do not drive until Monday (5 days from discharge) or when you have stopped pain meds....that is about it...Sorry venting here...but would like to know if this is all normal when a VP shunt is inserted....are the doctors missing something here? Can I demand to have this removed? I am not sure if I am posting in the right forum...this site is somewhat hard to get around in....

Finding your way around the forum will get easy in no time. You can get into the main menu several different ways. You can click on the big Neurotalk logo and it'll take you to the main menu, or I usually use the 'forum jump' down towards the bottom of the page. When you're in the main menu, scroll down a ways and you'll get to the alphabetical list of health related topics. Or just pop in any of the forums listed and start a new thread (top center, like you did here) or post a response to a thread by hitting 'reply'.

Someone else mentioned they weren't able to start a new 'thread' and I think it was because they were trying to start one while in another person's 'thread'.
I think you have to exit out of this current thread and you'll see at the top left of the screen the option to start a new thread.
You're doing good at making a 'post', like you did here, but I'm thinking you want to start a new thread? If so, like Koala mentioned, scroll thru the main menu and find the forum you'd like to start a thread in. Example, if it's a particular health concern then scroll a ways down the main menu and you'll find the health issues listed in alphabetic order...and there are many other support forums listed in main menu.
Have I completely confused you?

It's easy once you get the hang of it. I learned my way around by popping in and out of different forums and the moderators are a huge help also.

I was diagnosed a year ago after experiencing problems for 3-4 years. I need some answers that doctors can't provide. Hell, it took them long enough to figure out what I have!
