Default New Member Needs Opinions

My saga begins with waking up one day with double vision I had a
visit to an Ophthalmologist who said I had dry eyes and use these eye
drops. No change. Next came a drooping eyelid and a trip to Urgent
care, a cat scan and no diagnosis. Next up, a Neurologist...blood
work, MRIs, no diagnosis…. another Cat scan (chest). No diagnosis! ...Given a trial dosage of Mestinon..a little improvement in droopy eye Next up, a Neuro-Ophthamologist..at last...he says "if it is not Myastenia Gravis, I will eat my hat"...doubles dosage of Mestinon...back to Neuro, nerve stimulation test...not sure of diagnosis he said he didn’t see anything..so now I’m on to ALS clinic that specializes in neuro-muscular conditions including Myasthenia. Still have double vision and drooping eyelid.

Yesterday my sister talked with family friend (Neuro-Surgeon) and his advice was to go straight to Duke and indicated speed was very important. He even gave us the name of doctor to see.

I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions. Oh I am a 70-year-old male. Very active and play table tennis 4 times a week.

Hey, pingpongman

Sounds like a good plan to me...

You've had a lot of tests. At least you know what it's not. It is hard to get the right dx and then good treatment and care.

Here is our MG site: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum77.html

I wish you the best.

Keep us posted.

Default Hi, I'm a Newbie too!

Hi, I'm a newbie too. Just joined today infact.

It sounds like you've got a good plan in place. Sometimes we can only take this stuff one step at a time and you're making the next step.

I hope this is the step that leads to relief and a good plan of treatment

Hi there. Just dropped by to say hi and to wish you a speedy recovery, and I hope you get some answers.

Duke sounds like a good place to start.

Keep posting and tell us what you find out.

We're rooting for you.

Take care,

Melody

Thanks Melody I hope to get some answers Tues. My neuro said he couldn't do any more for me since all my tests were good. They won't give me anything stronger than 60mg of Mestinon 3-4 times a day. That helped the droopy eye but not the double vision.

Mike - Is the double vision horizontal or vertical? If its vertical this narrows down the possibilities dramatically for a doctor. I have the vertical and so it is definitely Myasthenia Gravis. Look online for causes of vertical vs horizontal double vision and you will find alot of info. Good luck. The urgency -since there was no problem with your thymos on chest ct scan -would be a possible brain tumor -thus need for urgency. Take care, dont panic, its just time to go treasure hunting! Treasure being the diagnosis!
