I would like to just give a little information about my situation. I am looking to chat with people who know what I am going through. I have had a rough few years since retiring but things are getting better slowly but surely..i will try to explain and not make it too long. in nov 2009 i had fallen during the night while getting up and was unconcious. they took me in a ambulance to the hospital and not long after that i went septis (sp?). they had to put me on a breathing tube and trache and i ended up being in a drug induced come for about 2 months or so. during that time i got alot of infections, blood infections, etc and they couldnt figure out why. anyways the worst part was when i was out they didnt turn me in the bed. i got a hellacious bedsore on my backside, it was the size of a dinner plate and to the bone. it ate into my ciatic nerve and when i came to, i could not feel or move my left foot. it was and still is dead from the ankle down and i am still battling the bedsore. i ended up getting out of the hospiiitals and rehab after 6 months. i left in a wheelchair and have finally ( a year later) got to the point where i can do short distances with a cane. shopping trips i use a scooter. antways, things are looking up I guess. I just would like to find someone who has been through these things or can relate to my feelings on this. i am having a hard time accepting the fact that I am not able to do the things I used to do and I feel like a burden to my family (even though they are great).

Hi rws965! Welcome to NT!
How terrible that the hospital staff let this bed sore go on like this! My goodness, this shouldn't have happened! It's so sad that one single moment in time can set us back like this. In my case I was kicked in the hand by a horse and shattered the bones. This, in turn led to RSD in my lower extremeties! ![]() Perhaps it wasn't as a direct result from the broken hand, but the hand fracture is what set off a series of problems and now I'm sitting here with a spinal cord stimulator to manage the pain! One instant in time. ![]() Anyway, I just wanted to welcome you and to say that this is a fantastic place to be for support, understanding, and alot of good information. There will be others along who can help point you in a direction. It's great to have you! Caring, Rae ![]() |
