Post New Member-Looking for some answers

Hi there, I'm Stacy. Always been a kind of laid-back person. Lived on the knowledge that stress was something that bothered other people.

I'm a control-freak. Not the kind of control-freak that HAS to be in control of others; but the type that has to be in control of myself. I expect alot from myself, at all times. I love to give to others...be it my time or my experiences; if others seek information...I give it. Unconditionally. Always have & always will.

Now, I'm in control of nothing, and I don't understand why.

My body seems to have a mind of it's own & on the other hand, it seems to have shut down. I never know...from the time I wake up (when I sleep) to the time I go to bed, what symptoms will appear; what their duration will be, or how to cope with them.

The list:

This time it started with numbness & tingling...then progressed to an "itchy" feeling around the left side of my face; up the nostril on the left side of my nose & the back of my left ear. I also get a "mask" feeling on my face (when the Neurontin I am now taking) wears off.

I have balance issues, tingling & numbness in both feet, my left arm has a "band-like" grip on the upper arm, just below where the arm connects to the shoulder. Swallowing issues...like I am about to choke. Drooling sometimes or the sensation of drooling from the corners of my mouth.

November 2010 I nearly lost my job when the memory problems I had affected my job. Also, I had had a few tremors in my left arm & it scared me. I went to my (then) PCP & was basically told that...you guessed it...it was all in my head. So I dropped him & went to another doctor. I had been going there for seven years. I think I might have been in that office only three times in seven years. Gee, thanks doc.

All through 2011, until August, I tried to ignore what was going on. My family was adamant that I go see someone about it. So when a Bellin Health Center office opened locally, I became a new patient. I have been refered to a Neurologist and had a Brain MRI, bloodwork, Evoked Potentials, a spine MRI & a follow-up brain MRI. The Neuro wants to do a Lumbar Puncture, however, I was hospitalized as an 11 year old with horrible headaches, and had one then & am terrified of having another one.

Never thought I was going to be in this position of not knowing what's going on with my own body.

All I am looking for is support, answers to questions & help in finding a specialist in my area, who accepts MI BC/BS, who is well versed in possible MS & Chiari. Yep, and maybe a friend or two...or a small miracle of relief of this stuff.

Thank you for listening to me "type" my frustrations!

Smile Hello Stacey!

Welcome to NT!

I'm so sorry you are dealing with these issues
I sure empathize with how frustrating it is trying to get medical personnel to take us seriously. Thankfully, for this place, people here are very caring and understanding of what this is like and the support is never-ending.

At the top section of most of the forums, you'll see "Sticky" posts, which are full of good information.....the stuff the doctors don't seem to share.

Make yourself at home, you've got friends!
It's great to have you!

Caring,
Rae
