Hi everyone I'm new to this forum I'm a 42-year-old female 5 foot 114 pounds. I just found out last night that my two hour glucose tolerance test was impaired. I'm not sure yet if this means I do have prediabetes but I know that it's possibility.
I thought everything started for me in May but perhaps it started a lot earlier I'm not really sure I'll explain. In may I had to vaccines hepatitis B and tetanus. About five days later I started having chest discomfort and tingling in my arms. Prior to this I was having heart palpitations that started in April. I will also mention that I had three UTIs very close together as a matter fact they felt like they never truly went away a hundred percent one was in late December one was sometime in February and the other one was in late April. Prior to this I would still get frequent UTIs but they were probably between 1 or 2 a year. Also I would tend to get yeast infections once or twice a year sometimes because of antibiotics but sometimes because Of having alcoholic drinks, I like drinks that are sweet. Anyway to continue on with my symptoms I continued to have arm tingling It would sometimes go up into my shoulders and have neck stiffness for a couple weeks at ocame arm pain in both arms and shoulders and my hands and my fingers won't hurt I didn't even want to type on my computer at work or home and I felt like I had to just let my arms flop to my size and my shoulders droop. These pains sometimes lasted for a few hours sometimes last for a few minutes sometimes they would last all day sometimes they would be burning or be like a deep ache my muscles. I would also get bee sting pains shooting pains. After about 4 to 6 weeks I started getting the numbness in my feet as well it would go from my feet up to my knees and the second time it happened it lasted all day long and it was accompanied by stiffness or rigidity in the front my lower legs. Upon waking the next day it was gone most my symptoms would come on during the day and when I woke up in the morning it would feel better. I also had times in the beginning where my arms would feel really heavy like they were strapped with lead. I also had problems with walking upstairs suddenly where I would get a lactic acid burn in my muscles going up one flight of stairs. I don't remember the timing on this because I didn't connect it but sometime early on in either April or May I was driving to work and my drive is about a 45 minute drive so I noticed I was getting so sleepy on my way to work that I was in danger of falling asleep at the wheel quite a few mornings. While it had trouble once in a while driving home from work and feeling sleepy have never had it happen to me in the mornings. For little while my numbness and tingling and pain started to subside for the most part but it would still have very faint feelings of it in my hands or in my foot are sometimes one hand and 1 foot weather was the same side opposite side didn't have any rhyme or reason. I also started to get muscle twitches all over my body within the last 4 to 5 weeks I would say. My muscles also get sore as if I worked amount but I really haven't worked amount it doesn't always last but I have had one it's been like this since the beginning don't know what that's all about either. One other thing that I want to mention and I'm very curious if anybody's have this happen to them and I need to know because this is my most fearful concern have a problem with some movements when I raise my arm up like I'm raising my hand it goes up Nice and smooth but upon bringing my arm back down it goes jerk jerk jerk jerk jerk. It feels like it shaking. This started probably four five weeks into my symptoms but now I also noticed that when I descend stairs I can feel very obvious shake as there is only one leg with my weight bearing on it this scares me and I also feel when I've bend down at the waist and come back up I feel the same shake or jerking motion in my muscles either in my back or my stomach I'm not sure where it's coming from. When this first started with me someone advise me to stop eating sugar and dairy an hour so nervous I listen to them and didn't do it and I'm wondering if that's why am between my symptoms started to go away to shake never when away but my numbness and pain the most part started to subside. I had no idea that this could be related to sugar as my fasting sugar levels were normal. I thought I had MS and I'm still not sure what I really have I thought I might have lyme disease but test was negative. Once my pain started to subside I started to eat sugar again because I was also on antibiotics possible lyme I took amoxicillin for 30 days. While it wasn't eating sugar to the max like I had been before this happened to me I was eating ice cream, cake and some other sweets and and having more bread and things I had tried to cut out when I was first having problems. Started getting a little more pain and little more numbness in my arms and legs and then after finding out last night that my two hour glucose test was a little high today I was careful what I ate. Anyway I'm looking for some guidance from anyone who may of had similar things happen to them. imvery frightened I'm glad there something at least for the doctors to look at now and hopefully tell me what's wrong but I also know that can be very difficult control your blood sugar. As a matter fact I'm very terrified now to eat because I don't want my sugar to keeps spiking and ruin my nerves. I really don't know what to eat how much to eat don't have an appointment with my endohronologist yet it supposed to take probably a week before they even call me that's what the neurologist said. I know I need to cut my carbs and be careful about sugar but there's a lot of conflicting information out there and I'm just afraid that I can't even test my sugar yet to see what it is after I eat. l have to wait for my appointment and see what the doctor will do for me. Also I'm so fearful that my arms and my legs might give out or not go back to normal. Im also having more burning lactic acid type feelings where I feel like I my arms and legs get pooped out. Hopeful that someone will come on and give me some advice and maybe if you have a similar story and tell me how it turned out for you. I really appreciate any help anyone can give me thank you so much for reading all of this. |

It would seem that you might have a number of things going on.
First, when you had those UTI's, did you get put on any antibiotics? There are some, especially in the cipro family, that have been associated with neurological symptoms. It would also be interesting to see your 2-hour glucose tolerance tests results, although a longer test with concurrent insulin levels drawn would be more instructive. (Make sure you always get copies of any test results from your physicians.) It is fairly well-documented that people can get symptoms of neuropathy from impaired glucose tolerance well before they have frank diabetes. Often, a longer glucose tolerance tests can reveal if a person has insulin resistance that results in reactive hypoglycemia, which can also result in neurological symptoms (and is often the first sign of impaired glucose tolerance or potential diabetes). And, of course, there's always the possibility of compressive nerve issues due to postural problems or spinal arthritis/disc issues. Feel free to come over and read/discuss possibilities at our other sections-- Peripheral Neuropathy: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/fo...sprune=-1&f=20 Spinal Disorders: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum22.html |

Hi, thanks for the response. I've posted my test results in the neuropathy thread. As far as Cipro, my last three infections I was given macrobid twice and then bactrum I had Cipro at least once before a year or two ago. I got it after I had leviquin which seemed to make my hand ache so I stopped it and told my dr. I had a reaction. One other strage thing I will mention. About 6 or 7 years ago my hand and arms were aching and hurting me I was using a PC that was not ergonomicly correct and attributed it to that. It was similar to what I felt in the beginning of this but no tingling. It went away with rest from PC. Didn't come back. |
