Hello !
I would like to introduce myself, my name is George and I was diagnosed with a mild and "diffuse" neuropathy in my legs ( EMG/NCV). As my screen name says, I took paxil for 8 years and upon reinstatment, the whole body went nuts. In December, I had 2 MRIS, an EMG/.NCV and blood work and it all came back fine. After tapering paxil between March and June I have been having horrible muscle cramps and twitches. It has gotten difficult to walk. I had the test done in June and the EMG/NCV showed a mild neuropathy "diffused". My symptoms are located between my hip and knees, specially the thighs. I am currently taking Lyrica (75x2) for the last 2 weeks and lorazepam .5mg at night. But it does not seem to be helping, actually I think it is getting worse. I tried lexapro and cymbalta and could not tolerate the pain that those produced. ( My Dr says it is not right to have so much pain fro these pills). Your assistance and advise is very welcome ! |

Hi,
Glad you found NT. There's a lot of info about neuropathy here. You'll find people are very understanding and can give you good advice from their own experiences. It's not easy when you're having pain. Hang in there.

Welcome to NeuroTalk...
I am still on vacation, but just looked in here while on a free wifi. I would like to invite you to our PN forum... http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum20.html When I get back I can respond more in detail. But at first glance you might search "SSRI effects on dopamine' on Google. SSRI drugs deplete dopamine over time and this leads to cramping and twitching muscles in some people. Also using a quality magnesium supplement may help. Avoid OXIDE forms, and choose a chelate or SloMag tablets. Magnesium may help if you don't eat enough foods like most Americans that provide this important mineral. I have a magnesium thread here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1138.html aim for 1/2 the RDA for now daily.
