Book Im here to learn more to support Mom

My mother was diagnosed with aneurysm in basilar tip artery in last May, 2012. She had a coiling procedure done. Since that time, she has continued to struggle more with ADLS (activities of daily living). She was home for the first two weeks after procedure needing a bit of help with walking, etc as her balance was bad. She fell and since that time has been in either the hospital or a nursing home. She was just recently moved out of the subacute rehab unit as she was not making progress. My hope is to bring her to my family to live but the travel is hard as we are over 600 miles away.

I am just trying to learn from others about how to best support Mom and am still hoping for more progress.

Default Elder Care

I took care of my mother in her later years. The commitment is quite large and can be very taxing. Giving what you posted you should plan an some type of in home nursing you will need it. Be extra sure to give yourself and family time. Care givers, especially family tend to neglect thier needs. It was very difficult to care for my mother and she was still relatively active. Those few years mean the world to me. I got to know her in a way I never did before. Our household was very dysfunctional. I remember seeing something on TV aboult Elder care and there are some books on the subject.
