What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition.

Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life.

Welcome NOS455,

Headaches and dizziness is also part of my everyday, I have asked that very same question to my neurologist as in - how can I possibly do to bear this? Because yes, medicine does do the trick but then I end up feeling useless because even though the throbbing pain stops... I can't move I'm so drowsy and I can't even stand the light on my alarm clock. Sadly, my neurologist was as blunt as it gets, his answer was "You need to give yourself whatever time you need to recover and get better. Just don't think much about it. Just get better."

Basically just lock myself up in a dark room and stay there until I'm ready to get out, not the best of things to do for anyone's mental health but I guess that's why wonderful places like this community exists, so you can actually share your pain with others and at least not go mad in the process.

Big hugs, stay strong
