Unhappy How to cope with nerve pain

Hi everyone,
Im struggling to cope with the effects of a narrow disc at L4 L5 and bulging disc at L5 S1. I have lower back pain with lots of tingling, twitching, numbness that comes and goes, burning in my thighs. Been doing physiotherapy for 8 months with slight improvement, but now doctor recommended a spinal cortisone epidural. Went for a second opinion and 2 neurosurgeons said relief from epidurals do not last. Is it possible for the nerve pain to go away without any kind of surgery? It seems that because my situation isn't severe that my pain and discomfort are downplayed, but it gets really bad at times and I am so depressed and scared about where it will end up.
