Help Pregabalin (Lyrica) and Gabapentin

I am trying to help my mother who is taking 50mg of Lyrica at 8AM and again at 10PM and she always wakes up in varying degrees of pain between 3AM and 5AM. Does anyone have experience with Lyrica that could help me determine if she needs:

A) Timed released Lyrica
B) A stronger dosage
C) An alternative such as gabapentin
D) Suggestions for anything to help her get a decent nights sleep and stay pain free?

I cannot seem to get a straight answer from her as to what her doctor is saying, so I suppose I can call if I don't have an answer after her appointment with him on Monday.

Thanks in advance for any "light" you can shed on this issue.

Welcome to NeuroTalk:

There is not yet a timed release Lyrica.

But there is a timed release gabapentin:

Horizant-- your doctor should have samples for this. It is worth a try.

Hi, I take Lyrica 75 and Gabapentin300. After trying Lyrica daily I quit it after a few weeks. I woke up in the middle of the night with food spread all over my bed (I never do that), I gained a pound with each pill. I noticed immediate relief though from a lot of the low level electric pain which in my case I have had since birth.

Instead I use the two meds only as needed. Today my fingers are white and shriveled and shootong pain under the nails because I was shoveling snow yesterday. I took both pills today. In 10 or 12 hours I might again or not. This was not how it was perscribed but it is my life, let the doctor try to live under those meds, not me.

I am 58 and had a birth injury. I was a teacher but retired at 50 because of chronic pain. I use medical marijuana and morphine30x3.

Hope that is helpful. I started running 2 years ago after smoking. Hard to believe but true. Two different doctor who never would sign papers did so for me. I have Peripheral Neuropathy.
