Arrow Helpful Info for New Members of the NeuroTalk Community

A BIG WELCOME to all of our new members

We are so pleased that you have decided to join our community of forums related to all things neurological and a whole lot more!

Thank you for introducing yourselves here, and we hope that you will now visit our other forums and post on them too, especially those related to the reason you have joined us.
Some of the members in those forums dont always visit up here in the general sections, and so we invite you to introduce yourselves to them too.

You will soon discover that what makes NeuroTalk unique amongst online forums is the level of support and care that our members show one another, and the way that we freely share our experience, and the information we find, with each other. You will be warmly welcomed in all of our forums

As you look down the Index of NeuroTalk's Forums you will see that the forums are divided up into FOUR main sections. (we plan to have a detailed, screenshot guide to our forums and their use up for you soon)

The first section of NeuroTalk Forums are what we call the "General" boards, which include this forum, as well as our Community & Forum Feedback board, for all things related to the NeuroTalk forums. Aplace to ask questions or find information about the community.

The topics covered in our General Forums are wide and varied and cater to social chat, love of all things creative and pets, spiritual support, computers, workers compensation and SSI, classifieds, comic relief, and Doc's Health Headlines

The second section is "Health & Related Topics" where we start with a forum for all health related discussions, and where there is also a subforum section for some rare illnesses, and less active forums.
The rest of this section is comprised of general health and wellbeing related forums with boards for caregivers, and one where those grieving the loss of a loved one can support and comfort one another, as well as our very special Survivors of Suicide Forum with a compassionate, caring and supportive group of members.

You will also find our Medications board there as well as the forum for Vitamins, Minerals and other Supplements, and issues related to natural & alternative treatments.
In addition we have a vibrant Weight Loss Support & Healthy Living board, and ones for Dental discussions, Women's Health issues, and a great support forum for Parents living with Disabilities,

The third and fourth sections are the Health Conditions A - L & M-Z , forums for a wide range of specific illnesses and disorders, both neurological and other, listed in alphabetical order.

The fifth section covers our forums that deal specifically Mental Health and learning to live with conditions like BiPolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety & OCD and other mental health related illnesses and disorders.

I hope that will help a bit with finding your way around our forums until our main navigation help page is posted.
Here again is the Index link
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/index.php

Below this thread you will also find introductions to the members who are moderators of NeuroTalk, and our welcoming team members.
All of us on the Community Support Team are here first and foremost to be of help to the membership in whatever way we can, so please dont hesitate to contact us by PM for any assistance you may need.

Our Community Guidelines help to keep NeuroTalk a safe haven for the members and so we encourage you to familiarize yourselves with these, also posted below. Again, should you need any clarification or help with the guidelines, the Community Support Team members are just a PM away.

And please do also read DocJohn's welcome message. If it was not for Doc, there would be no NeuroTalk and all of us members really appreciate him

again welcome to NeuroTalk and we look forward to your participation in our Community

** ps Your first of posts will not show instantly on the boards. In order to prevent the rising influx of spammers, advertising and potentially harmful links on the forums, initial posts by newly registered members will only be visible to the moderation/administration team until they've been approved. Once a new member's posts have gone through the approval process, future postings will be immediately visible without further screening. During this period new members will not yet be able to post URL links or use the chat rooms. So keep posting to make the most of all of Neurotalk's features

**Another Important PS Here is the link to some helpline phone numbers for anyone in crisis

Lightbulb

yes, please use this method rather than creating a new ID as we dont permit more than one user account per member unless for specific personal reason, which has to first be arranged with me

if you cant log in you can use the contact us button at the bottom of each page and we will get an email notifying us of your problem and then be able to help

here is the guideline on that
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=1293

Quote:
Only One Account per Person, Please

In order to keep our community civil and responsible, we ask that you only register one account as a member here.

There is an exception to one-account-per-person: If you would like to discuss something you would rather not associate with your regular username here, you may register a single additional account just for such a discussion. Members should create only one duplicate account for special posting. Please notify Chemar when you create the second account in order to avoid confusion or misunderstandings. No individual should have more than 2 accounts at any time here and additional accounts should never be created to circumvent administrative actions (such as a suspension).

another helpful tip.....

the system will automatically log you out if you are not actively clicking around the forum. even typing a long post or PM will log you out if you are not clicking

the way to avoid losing what you are typing is to always check the "remember me" box when you log in. that way you stay logged in until you personally log out, and the system will not time you out

just an FYI

the forums here are open and public, which means that members and non-members can read them, including the many search bots sent out by Google etc to index info on the web. So just because a topic may have a large number of "views" but not many replies, is not indicative of the actual members who have read it, but rather reflects the total views, members, guests and bots

To start a NEW THREAD..... enter the Forum you wish to post to and look near the top and bottom left of the page where you will see the NEW THREAD button, click, type and submit

To post a reply to an existing thread in a forum, enter the thread and you will see the NEW REPLY button in the same areas (top and bottom left) Depending on the theme/skin you are using, it may say POST REPLY etc but they are always in that same location.

To reply to an existing thread by quoting the post you wish to reply to...use the QUOTE button at the bottom right of the post you are responding to.

Lightbulb Visitor Messages and Private Messages

Some members seem to get these a bit confused so just to clarify....

If you leave a Visitor Message (aka VM) on another member's profile page....that message is NOT private. Anyone who is logged in to NeuroTalk can read messages written on member profiles!

A Private Message (aka PM) is private between the members who send them to each other...ie they go to a member's inbox and only the recipient and the member who sent the message can read it.

At the bottom left of the main NeuroTalk index page http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/index.php you will find the option to change the Theme, ie color and design, of how you view the forums. Use the dropdown arrow in the box that currently displays "Default Style", and you will see the other options. It only changes correctly from the main index page.
Enjoy!
