Hi ~ Degenerative disc disease can strike at any age unfortunately. Everyone gets it. It's just that some of us get it sooner than others. Every person alive will get it at some point or another.

All it is, is drying out of the discs. When they dry out, they tend to flatten, and that makes they bulge and/or herniate. Also when they flatten, the upper vertebra will sink down to the vertebra below it because the disc flattened, and it isn't there to hold it up. When several of these disc flatten, and the vertebra sink down, we become SHORTER!!! We lose height! I used to be 5'4 1/2" tall. I'm now 5'2" !!! I've actually lost 2 1/2" in height!! So obviously my spine is a mess -- 2 open surgeries, plus a spinal cord stimulator implant & removal, and many other procedures.

Why not join us on Spinal Disorders? I'm sure you'll learn alot. Take care and God bless. Hugs, Lee
