Hello all, I'm excited to learn from all of you. I've been diagnosised with perpherial nueropathy at age 41 and I'm 48 now. Why I have this, I have no idea, since no one in my family has it. My lower inner leg musles have athrophied and my balance is off. I have leg braces but don't use them all the time nor my walker, only when I have to walk long distance. The only medication I take is sumatripatin for the migraines I get about 6 times a month (when I'm stressed or on my menstrual cycles). I'm a VA veteran and it seems that they haven't helped me much with this except provide me with the leg braces, walker and physical therapy (that didn't help much) and at first medications (gabapetin and tramadal), which I chose not to take at all now, except for the migraine relief medication.

I'm curious to know if gluten free diets help and also light therapy and tens kit therapy.

Hi, Welcome to Neurotalk. You will meet a lot of great people here. So feel free to ask questions, rant, rave or just learn.

I am sorry you have PN, I feel there must be a cause. People usually don't just get it. Has far as your medications Gabepentin will help with nerve pain and so will a stimulator (tens unit) I am not sure about light therapy.

Thx U all for the warm welcome! I will look around the forum. I've been taking WSN nerve support formula and also just started OPC3. Trying to add exercise once again and massage my legs.
I'm going to be evaluated next week by a Chiropractor that wants to do light therapy and EMS, however if it's too expensive, I will do it myself. My hubby has a tens kit put away and I will look around to buy my own light therapy unit (I hope I can find one).

Not sure yet. I have an appoinment with a chripratr next week that will evaluate me, but I looked online and he charges like 300 a session... this is all out of pocklet expenses. Where can I buy the infrared and LED light therapy pads at ? Have they worked for you?

Welcome to Neuro Talk. I have PN also. I have been doing light therapy for it and I am walking better. Doc recommened glutton free, and for the most part I am trying that. Also taking B12 shots and Co Q 10, among my suppliments. This seems to be working. I am walking better, and the pain is less. A foot joint I thought was atrophied, is now moving again without pain. I have been excersising this foot and leg for a year now. Definate improvement. Hope you can find some protocal that will help you. Again Welcom to NT. Lots of good folks here. ginnie
