Hi everyone, I am a medically retired Navy Nurse. I live in severe pain body wide. I have been on Fentanyl 75mcg/hr for a few years now. It keeps my pain = 7-8 on a 10pt scale. Without it it is =10+. The pain is nothing like anything I can describe…mind encompassing. I tried Ketamine once in a blind study done at Walter Reed Army Hospital. My pain disappeared instantly along with the sick flu feeling but only lasted a few hours I presume due to the low dose I was given. Now the Veterans Administration has authorized me to receive Ketamine treatments. I feel this may actually cure me but I can't find a doctor near Virginia that will do the Ketamine. Can anyone out there help me with info?

I was lucky to get 30mg ms contin twice a day. I have been on this same dose since 2009. It is not working well anymore but my dr will not increase or change medication to try for more relief. Boy, you are lucky to get fentanyl patch. I have not heard of ketamine. Let me know if this works out. I suffer chronic pain so bad. I am at my wits end but afraid to say anything because you know they already look at you as a drug seeker / addict if you complain of pain. I can't function in my life and haven't been for a long time. Good luck to you.

A Physiatrist can be a blessing when you have an anesthesiologist who doesn't want to order the meds you need. You are not a "user". Your pain is real. Your other medical issues all play together and should be treated as such. That is what a Physiatrist does, they try to make you whole again and get you on the road to recovery. They are Rehabilitation Doctors. Good Luck Brian, .........Dawn |

Dawngri,
Yeah I know. I am hurting bad. I have recently decided I need to go to others. I have an appt for a neuropsychological evaluation on the 25th so I am hoping they can help me or recommend where to go. I am on Medicaid since I have not been able to work since 2009 and just don't know where to go or what kind of dr I need to see. I have been seeing a pain specialist only. I have heard of people being able to get the ketamine in Mexico but it is expensive and dangerous.

I love the birds. I actually had blue birds yesterday on my suet. They are gorgeous, just like the cardinals. Our CT mornings are so cold. And the hawks are out looking for food too........... I can thank Rae and Mark56 for helping me along this web site. Dawn |

Your medical doctor should be over seeing your care. Because of so many organs and body systems involved, your MD should be sending you to certain specialists.............if you can find the right doctor, you may be able to start putting a dent in some of the problems you are dealing with. Hang in there ![]() |

........... I can tell you that drugs used in trials are usually given to the patients by the trial doctors once the study is complete. The medical staff running the study are the only ones that have any experience with trial meds for the reasons it was used...... And of course the drug manufacturer. I highly doubt you will find any one to treat you with a med as strong and dangerous as Ketamine. So sorry you are in the same pain boat as the rest of us. ..........Dawn |
