Hello all,
This is my first time to a chat room so pls forgive the ignorance. I am looking for answers and have no idea where to start. My fiance has had 6 concussions during his lifetime, starting at a young age when he fell out of a tree. There are occasions when he becomes angry, no big deal, unless he reaches a point where he cannot seem to "turn it off" and almost comes to blows with the other person involved. I have been unable to find a "trigger" that kind of brings him back to reality. His nephew recently returned from Iraq after being shot twice and has been diagnosed with 2 traumatic brain injuries and we are noticing some uncanny similarities between the two...and we are now wondering if these episodes that Peter occasionally has could be related to his concussions. Where do we go? Where do we start? We have good insurance and are willing to delve further, but honestly are at a loss. Any suggestions would be eternally grateful. Kandy ![]() |

Hi Kandy and welcome. As Darlene posted above there is a forum specifically for TBI/PCS, lots more information is available there.
Some additional specifics about your fiancé’s concussion history would be useful. Anger and other forms of disinhibition are not uncommon with TBI survivors. When was his last concussion, and did his behavioral symptoms get worse after that? Has He been seen by a neurologist or clinical neuropsychologist? Often they help identify specific problem areas and prescribe appropriate treatments. Therapy and sometimes medication can help with these types of behavioral issues, but it assumes he is aware on them and is willing to work to try to resolve them. Meantime some general information about TBI/PCS can be found on the links below. Best to you both. http://www.brainline.org/index.html http://biausa.fyrian.com/state-affil...bia-of-indiana

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. |

This is my first time on a site like this too. I am sorry you are going through this. The TBI/PCS form seems to have a lot of info - like others have said. Has he seen a neuropsychologist? Perhaps they could help with a strategy when he comes really upset. Just a thought.
