Smirk New Parkie on the block

Hi all, I just found this forum. Some of the people on Patients Like Me mentioned it, so I thought I'd take a look.

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in September 2006. This was a bit of a shock; I was only 46, and I thought only "old" people got Parkinson's. Shows you what I know! I'm very lucky, though. My symptoms are pretty mild, and mostly on one side; tremor, stiffness, bradykinesia, some pain. I thought it was arthritis or carpal tunnel or something like that. You know, something you can do something about. To be told that you have an incurable, progressive brain disease kind of rocks your world.

I think that learning as much as I can and trying to do positive things are both very important, so that's why I'm here.

Thanks,
Marian

Welcome, Marian! I can understand your shock of receiving that diagnosis. I've had similar shocks, diagnosis of myasthenia gravis, diagnosis of cancer, then my dh's diagnosis of cancer. But you just take one step at a time, and you're taking the best first step by educating yourself. Hope to get to know you better over time!
