I have Depressed Skull Fracture and a 2"x3" hole without a plate. I have had no therapy for my TBI. My doctor told my sister that I would never be depressed again because of where the fragments cut my pathways. It was painful when my brain was remapping. The question I have is simply this: Have any of you all heard of such a case? I used to take medication for emotional problems before all of this. Now, I tell myself that I am not blissful, but blissed off. I can be frustrated, stressed out, but not down and out. I have had losses that would have crippled me before the injury. But now, I am just bewildered by bad times. I am unable to keep a girlfriend because I am like a robot at times. Not apathetic, but kind of flighty and unable to filter my honesty. Hello and welcome. I can't say I've heard of a case exactly like yours.

I had a TBI with skull fracture a couple years ago, but was fortunate to have received an immediate craniotomy to relieve the pressure from the hematoma, and after several months of speech and occupational therapy I’ve substantially recovered.

This was fifteen years ago? What therapies or other evaluations have you had? Have you, or are you seeing a neurologist or clinical neuropsychologist?

Welcome to Neuro Talk. I have not heard of this kind of injury on NT, but I know they occur. I am surprised no therapy was offered to you. A good neuropsychologist may be of value to you. Never give up hope that you can get better. Maybe you would consider some mild excersise such as tia chi. This involves slow movement and may help depression and the feelings of confusion or being bewildered. Keep training your brain toward good activities, and a better mood will follow. I am a spinal patient, now engaged in excersices with tia chi. This seems to help me. We will be here for you at Neuro Talk.
