Default Just starting to research

My 35 year old son had his first seizure last summer. He went to the ED, they diagnosed it as severe dehydration. Well, now, 8 months later, he seems to be having the seizures more regularly especially in connection with stress. I am in NH and he lives in CA. Ugh...I am planning a trip out there soon to check on him, and meet the docs he is seeing. The MD said he is having an absense seizure disorder. My son is telling me it is from numerous concussions. He is a snowboarder,& skateboarder. It is a terrible feeling being across the country from him. He is single and has had a rash of stressful events since the holidays. Please give me some insight onto how I can help. He is going to a holistic doc next week and is currently on 300 mg gabapentin daily now. I am really scared for him.
Worried Mom...Sherry

If he has had several concussions, he needs to STOP this snowboarding & skateboarding! I'm sure he's been told this by his doctors but has refused to stop, right? Or else he just hasn't told YOU this. He should NOT be doing this anymore. More concussions could be EXTREMELY dangerous to him as continual head injuries could cause permanent brain damage or death.

He's old enough to know better, but since he's single he probably has the frame of mind that who is he hurting? Well, he's not thinking of YOU!!! He figures he hasn't got a wife and kids, so what's the big deal! He's being very CHILDISH and SELFISH. He has to stop this activity NOW before he kills himself.

These seizure can probably be controlled with medication but that's ONLY if he stops this nonsense. I wish you the very best, and my prayers are with you Sherry. I know how worried you must be. You would think that when our kids are grown, we wouldn't have to worry AS MUCH, but i've found that NOT to be true.

God bless you Sherry, and would you please keep me informed? you can private message me. I'd really like to know. Take care. Hugs, Lee

I myself have epilepsy. I have had it since I was 10, and believe me that was a long time ago. You need to get into seeing an Epileptologist at an Epilepsy Center, which are located at medical schools. I had surgery there and it did not cause that much. Also since the surgery I have not had a seizure. Click on the following forum there are some great friends to help you along.
