Default Nerve damage to tongue

Hello:

I am new to the world of pain, and have been searching everywhere for places to find current information that might help me as I try to cope with nerve damage to my tongue, the result of an oral surgery procedure. I have seen a few neurologists and oral surgeons; yesterday, saw a pain management expert, who is advising a stellate ganglion block as a diagnostic measure, to determine whether the pain is coming from my sympathetic nerve system, and to--maybe--use the block as a way to treat the pain. It is--no pun intended--a long shot. But I am anxious to find something that will help me. I am terrified by the prospect of the procedure and its risks, and found this site in my quest to learn more about it. My symptoms seem to reflect much of what I have read about burning mouth syndrome, although mine seems to have been triggered by the oral surgery.

I am grateful for ideas and information here.

Thank you.

Default Thank you Darlene

I am very nervous about undergoing the procedure, but I am trying to be hopeful that it will lead to a better understanding of what is going on and, maybe, lead to some pain relief. I would be grateful for either or both outcomes. I'm just very anxious about having a procedure done--oral surgery gone awry is what led me to this pain to begin with. The doctor who is performing the block is very knowledgeable and well-regarded and nice, so I am hopeful. They have moved it to earlier in the day so I do not have to spend an entire day full of anxiety and fear. I will let you know how it goes.

Thank you,
Janice
