Default Newbie - Suspected Fungal Meningitis & Brain Biopsy

Hi all

My husband has been unwell & in hospital for a long time & whilst fungal meningitis is strongly suspected, it has not yet been diagnosed despite the usual array of tests: MRI & CT scans, lumbar punctures, blood tests, reviews by many consultants etc

They are now discussing a targeted brain biopsy but are not yet certain as it would be higher risk than they initially thought & would not necessarily provide the answers we are searching for.

They are also running lots of obscure tests as it may be something else entirely.

Just wondered if anyone else has any experience of this? The whole thing has become a ridiculously long & upsetting process & we're none the wiser as he isn't responding to treatment.

Any advice appreciated.

Wink

Welcome to NeuroTalk:

I am not sure if their is anyone here with the special expertise you are inquiring about. To the best of my knowledge it is rare, except in people with the misfortune to get epidurals using compounded medications.

We don't have doctors here as a rule, just patients supporting each other.

Sometimes people find your post from Google, so give it time
to attract that larger audience.
