SORRY IN ADVANCE FOR THE LONG INTRO Hello I am a 35 year old female that has had ongoing neurological problems. My husband is in the military and we have been stationed in Spain for the past 3 1/2 years. After being here for about 6 months (October 2010) I developed left side only facial pain/numbness. My family practitioner diagnosed me with "Trigeminal Neuralgia" even with a clear MRI. He put me on the medicine "Tegretol" (sp) which is for seizures but hey it worked at the time...About 4 months after that I had eaten Shrimp and I had what they thought an allergic reaction to Shrimp because I had just ate shrimp and then my whole face and chest turned red, the whites of my eyes turned blood shot, I got extreme pain in my stomach with diarrhea, my throat felt as if it were closing and I had palpatations in the roof of my mouth so I got to tide in the fun ambulance and they diagnosed me with allergic reaction to shellfish. My doctor during my follow-up did blood work on me for allergies which they all came back negative, he did prescribe me an epi pen just in case though. We soon realized that seafood was not the case as throught the years I have had these episodes often ( i tried cutting out caffiene, lactose, etc) to try and pin point a trigger, no hope, so all of this is going on with the life side pain/numbness. SO I was on the medicine for about a year and at which time all the symptoms had went away and he said that the only way to know if that was exactly what it was (Trigeminal Neuralgia) to go off the medicine and see if it came back. That was until about 4 months ago when everything came back with a vengence... this time I had a new provider so when this happened again he decided to put me back on the Tegretol since it was worked the last time, well this time I had a problem with the medicine and since I had newer symptoms of my eyes would doze off while he was doing an eye exam and even my optomitrist was able to see my eyes get lazy or doze off as well as I was having weakness in my legs both of them as well as waking up with my heart racing, pressure in my chest and blood pressure through the roof which I had quite a few ambulance rides with that and they said that it was possibly anxiety, which to me was weird because I was asleep. So anyways they had to take me off the Tegretol because it had a drug interaction with my blood pressure medicine (Lisiniprol with HCTZ). I was since referred to a Neurologist who did and MRI checking for MS and Trigeminal Neuralgia which both were ruled out and then I have also had a CT scan, Gall Bladder scan, checked for lYme disease, etc. All I can say is that all my organs are good, my blood work is all normal. The only thing is my ESR is slightly elevated meaning there is slight inflammation in my body. So I started logging all the times when these events were happening and they seem to come on strong about 3-4 days before my period and then stay bad until after my period gives up and then i get the numbing in between but not really mich more. When I told my provider he ran my thyroid blood work and he said that my TSH and T4 levels are normal but I am not so sure that my thyroid is acting right. I am extremely feeling defeated because now its the guessing game.... I know something is not right but they cant figure out what it is...

IWantSomeAnswers35,
![]() Sad to hear what you are going through, hope that you will over come this. First of all the medicine could effect you. When one medicine will help a person, it could not assist the other. I myself was pit on a medicine at one time where after being on it for a few weeks developed some bad side-effects. Here is a forum where you will find some wonderful friends to help you out. Trigeminal Neuralgia: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum26.html Please keep us up to date on your situation. Again welcome, looking forward to seeing you around. My thoughts and prayers are with you. ![]()
