Question New member with some questions

I've been on ssdi a couple of times. The first time I was on it for gilles Tourette syndrome, depression and anxiety.

After being on ssdi for some time I decided to try a trial work period and was able to stay at work for almost 4 years before my issues got to the point to where I could no longer function so I went back to he ssdi. A month later my benefits started back and I have been on them ever since.

As far as the ssa is concerned I'm my disability is Tourette syndrome, depression and anxiety. But since then I fell and broke my back in three places and had to have surgery. They put rods/screws/fushion at s1/l5 and now I'm in pain management for that.

My question is should I leave well enough alone and not tell the ssa of my back issues or should I let them know that I now have even more stuff wrong with me and have the back issues added to my ssa file?

My meds for my original issues are Prozac for depression (30mg day) and clonazepam for anxiety (4mg day).

The meds I take from my pain management doctor is oxycodone for pain (30mg a day), flexeril for muscle spasms (20mg day), ambien for sleep (10mg day).

I do not know what to do as I have heard all sorts of crazy stories about the ssa when people change anything with them.

I'm just wondering if by adding the back issues to my file if it will give more security/stability with my ssdi or if it will start something and I will end up regretting even bringing it up.

I'm very confused as what to do.

What do you people think? What would you do in my situation?

Thanks!

Default Hi Jrctherake

I don't know the answer, but in my own case, I have informed them of any changes. If you had an assistant to get your case going, I would check with him so you would feel confident in contacting SSD. ginnie

The person that put me on ssdi was my original doctor. I never even filled a form out. He did all of that for me and I was approved within a month.

At the time I was in a mental unit and was there for a month or so and by the time I got out my first check was in the bank.

The doctor that was so good to me is deceased now.

I have new doctor now but this one is not as helpful to say the least as my first one.

I was very, very lucky to have my first doctor. I didn't know it at the time though. I realized just how lucky I was to have my first doc as soon as I started seeing my current doctor.

My current doctor acts like he could care less about my benefits as far as ssdi goes. He only worries about our sessions and that's it. I know that is his job but I guess I got spoiled by my first doctor.

My current doctor all but says it is up to ssa when it comes to my benefits and he says he leaves that part to them and the applicant (me) which kind of scares me when it comes to review time because I have a scary feeling he will not be careful in how he words things as we all know how a doctor words things can make or break you.

That is why I am thinking of getting the back issues added to my disability file.

I'm not sure if adding the back problems and pain management for chronic pain would give me piece of mind when it comes to CDR's or not which is why I am asking here.

If having the back issues and the fact that I'm under a pain management doc would make my disability case stronger thus having a less chance of ever losing it not to mention fewer CDR's then I will do it but if it will not matter then there is no sense in going through all the trouble of asking my pain doc to get involved.

I was hoping that someone had experience at adding other illness' to their file after being approved for benefits so they could say what they did and why.

I really miss my first doctor as I know he was willing to go to bat for me at the drop of a hat. I wish he was still alive.

Thanks for your response,

Rake
