I have suffered from Meralgia Paraesthetica for a number of years, but it only showed up when I was walking too much or standing in one place. It was annoying, but not disruptive. Three weeks ago I had a triple bypass, but now the discomfort is almost 24/7, and often becomes a 10 on the pain scale. I had a cath inserted in my groin on one leg and a temporary pump through the other leg.

My question is this: What have others in this situation experienced? Did the surgery exacerbate my condition?

My plan is to return to my chiropractor if my heart doctor clears me.

I have had MP for several decades. When mine began, it too, would only show up when walking or standing, but for many years now, it has been constant. I have not had a CABG, but have had cardiac cath and attempts at stent placement. The cath was placed in the leg that is afflicted with MP. At the time of my cath, my MP was so bad that any additional aggrevation of the LFCN would not have been noticable. I was hitting those 10's before the cath so reaching them after the cath, I could not attribute to the catherization.

Your surgery could have aggrevated the LFCN and you may get relief if the nerve calms down. This could happen on its own or you may need to seek medical intervention if it does not.

I know the MP pain of which you speak so I am hoping that you find relief soon.

I am sorry that you had to go through bypass surgery and hope that you have a speedy recovery from it. It would be awful to have restoration of your abilities that may have been limited by your cardiac condition only to be limited now by the pain of MP.

My MP is so bad, it actually has helped reduce the number of angina attacks by reducing my mobility. When I do attempt mobility, it is a contest of what will hurt the most and hit me first, the angina or the leg pain.

Now that your heart is "fixed", I sure hope you get your MP remedied.

One other thing...... the GOOD news is there are not many MP sufferers still around here because they improved. (Improvement is very common.) The bad news is because there are not many of us still here, you may not get many responses or find someone that has had both MP and CABG.

Thanks for the input. The past few days have been better. I can be on my feet for 15 minutes before I have to sit down for a few minutes. I spoke with my chiro yesterday & he's going to have me come in for some some manipulations in two weeks. He said he could he could help. Since he's never been wrong in the past, I'm hoping things will be better.
