Smile New Member/Help with MRI lingo

Hello-

Just came across this site in the search for definition of an MRI I had yesterday. I got a copy of the report before my doctor has had the chance to call me back and explain the results.

(And since it's the weekend, I don't think I'll hear anything til Monday or Tuesday.) Hoping I could find some input here.

I've been working with a number of profound health changes in the past seven years. More acutely in the past three. Severely in the past 12 months. Autoimmune is chief among them.

I had a brain MRI about 5-1/2 years ago, when I was first dx'd with Meniere's, which came back fine. Recently, my ENT wanted to rule out MS, because there have been some other symptoms.

Thankfully, my newest MRI appears to be mostly "unremarkable"- *I think*. No lesions were noted, anyway. But I have some questions about some remarks at the tail end of the report.

"Minimal High T2 signal is present in the right mastoid. Left mastoid clear."

I understand what the mastoid is; understand T2 is a level of scan, and that "signal" is when there's, for the sake of brevity, a bright/white spot noted in a specific area (ie, something is there).

Beyond that, however, I haven't been able to ferret out any greater explanation on the web. Can someone tell me what this might *mean*? The only other noteworthy comments: my "lacrimal glands" were "prominent" and I have "mucosal thickening in both my "ethmoid sinuses".

But those aren't the ones that are worrying me. It's the "signal" found in the mastoid area.

Thanks in advance for shining any light on the subject.

Cheers,

Julie
