Hello,
I am scared. Suffering with daily headache, imbalance, mental fog/heaviness, noise/screen sensitivity, anxiety after a freak injury to my head one month ago. Visited urgent care one week post injury, and was given .5mg ativan and Keterolac; and was told by the doc that my symptoms and the reinjury "may be a concidence." This is a freak re-injury to an area where I suffered a concussion in college (1997). The hairstylist I saw on June 25 applied direct repeated pressure (5-6 times during 5 minute massage) with her thumbs to my old area of injury-- it was some kind of crazy pressure massage during the shampoo. I should have said, "please stop," but I didn't. Although it was causing discomfort, I had no idea it would result in what appears to be a brain injury. Have an appointment on August 28th to see the neurologist I saw once in 1997, she was very good. I am not sure I can return to work (K-12 art teacher, full time). I know that others on the forum are much worse off, but this is real and my truth and I am really suffering. Thank you for reading. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. -Julia |

Hello Julia,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups. I'm sorry you're dealing with these new problems at the site of your original injury. I'll leave the link below for the TBI/PCS forum here. It's a busy forum and there you should find support and information regarding these new symptoms. Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Concussion Syndrome Forum take care there |

I'm sorry for your injury, but welcome to our little brain boo boo club.
If you don't mind me asking, how did you sustain your injury in college and how long did it take you to recover? Did you fractured or penetrate the skull? |

In college (Feb 1997), I was getting ready for the day and was trying to find a sweater in my closet. I had a goofy huge closet on the third floor of an old mansion, and it had a very low door frame (actually there was no door, just a door opening that was not much higher than my height of 5'5").
Like a moron, I kneeled down to gather momentum (I was going to jump up as hard as i could to try and see a sweater on an upper shelf in the closet). So I jumped and BAM! my head slammed (hard) on the top of the door frame. Don't know how much force that would have been, i am not a physics person. Anyway, immediately saw stars and went to bed. Never sought medical attention, had no clue about head injuries but I just assumed it would be fine. Felt nauseated for a week (no vomitting), and had a bruise and much tenderness over the area. No cognitive impairment or neurological symptoms. Did develop migraines at the site of injury, but they were manageable (monthly or less). |
