I am t60 years of age and have a number of medical issues. I had a fall at work about six weeks ago and had to be airlifted to a trauma center as I was on Coumadin and struck my head where I was unconscious for about a minute and began to vomit, etc.
I am still out of work as I have issues with balance, light, noise, nausea, vision, etc. Before this I had been diagnosed by a major medical/college research institution with severe fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, human parvo-B-19, dysautonomic and sever peripheral neuropathy and some other disorders. In addition, I recently, had surgeries for a DVT which was about two feet in length than ran from my ankle to my abdomen. This may have occurred after a fall down a flight of stairs about three weeks previous to the DVT. Prior to that I never had any blood clotting problems nor had any of my family members. That was "successful" and I am now on Coumadin. I had been getting along in a functional manner until I fell at work and the PCS problems appeared. The aforementioned symptoms from it make it very tough for me. |

Welcome to NT
This is a great place to come and find support and answers. My mom was on Cumadin. It's a tough drug to take. After 10 years or so, they ended up putting a filter in mom, for clotting factors. She is not on blood thinners after that. Every person is different in their needs and why they are on blood thinners. You should wear a band for your own safety. So sorry you're having so many problems. It's not easy, I'm sure. Did you get copies of your medical records? I'm sure there's a lot of tests, labs, scans, etc, that will give you lots of answers. The more informed we are about our medical history, the better our chances of successful treatment in the future. Caregivers and healthcare providers do want the best for their patients. I do believe that, in spite of some medical provider issues I have of my own. But on the whole, I do believe we need more attention when it is not clear why things are not right with a person. Be wise. Be informed. It may help to keep a diary for future reference. Give yourself time to heal. Concussions are hard to get over sometimes. Be very careful of hazards around you that may cause you to lose your balance. Falls are your enemy. Take every precaution till you're steady on your feet. Be safe above all. Get plenty of rest. Keep hydrated and listen to your body. Take care... ![]()

You are correct about falls. I have been diagnosed before the accident at work this October with Chronic Peripheral Neuropathy (EMG Testing) and now use a walker as compared to a cane when I move any distance.
I must watch and not have another fall after a rather bad concussion this October. Again thank you for all the advice and kind words they are most appreciated. |

Welcome to neurotalk. Sorry to hear about your fall and subsequent PCS symptoms. While all head injuries are different, six weeks is not all that long in the recovery process. Quiet rest, good nutrition, B-vitamins are all important. Fish oil is also frequently recommended. Take care of yourself and it’s likely you will see continued progress. Best to you as you recover.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. |
