Default New member in Maryland saying "Hi"

Stumbled on this Forum a few days ago and have appreciated reading different threads and finding it helpful to be 'among' folks with whom I can relate (I'm not alone, but sometimes I feel alone). Anyway, thank you to those who are taking the time to listen, answer, share, support, etc.

My story... MVA in April 2009, I was only vehicle waiting at red light, hit from behind by speeding car. Initially seemed I escaped with only back and neck injuries. Following pain meds and PT for several months (I did fully recover from neck/back issues), I continued to have headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, confusion, etc. so PC doc ordered CT scan. When CT scan looked OK he referred me to a specialist at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC. Since there was a waiting list, he sent me to a local neurologist. The Neuro gave me some additional tests (EEG and MRI), diagnosed me with PCS and PTSD and put me on Citalopram.

I didn't get better so when an appointment became available at NRH, I was sent there. My new Neurologist confirmed my diagnosis of PCS and PTSD and added mTBI. He also ordered a neuro-psych test as well as Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy and Cognitive Speech Therapy. Somewhere along the line my meds changed to include Zoloft, Adderall and/or Ritalin (I don't remember). I was also asked to start seeing a Neurophychologists (Talk Therapy).

I am currently an out-patient at NRH. I see my Neuropsychologist at least monthly and my Neurologist every 6 months. I take a small dose of Concerta and Ritalin daily to help with focus. Although I still struggle with depression and alot of anxiety, I stopped the anti-depressants as I believe the bad 'outweighed' the good.

I have been married to my best friend for 29 years. We have 2 daughters. I was self-employed at the time of the accident (small commercial construction firm) and because of my awesome and supportive wife and outstanding employees, I am squeaking by even though I can only work a couple of hours a day until I completely run out of steam (read God's grace here). The jury's still out on whether we can continue this for much longer.

I have felt 'alone' more recently so I wanted to join this group and may even try to find a group in my area I can visit in person. Thanks for listening!
