I Have written to you before with my problem.
I had an infected root canal removed in may 2013 and they root canaled the tooth again, the tooth is an upper lateral front tooth. I never had any pain in this tooth which had a false crown on it because my own crown had broken many yeras ago byt the false crown suddenly fell out of my mouth when I was floshing. My dentist did an x ray and saw a "change" in the bone an said that he had to do the root canal again to stop the infection. So he did that and just briefly glued the crown but it was always falling out and I had do go to the dentist for 3 times to glue this crown stuck after he had done the root canal cleaning treatment. Finally he did some work and the crown was stuck, he took a very long time in this, I remember, but after this 3rd time with the dentist I suddenly felt pain, like a pain in my bone. He put me on dalacin (clyndamicin) and the pain stopped but it mooved down to my front lower tooth, the opposite tooth. The pain there was felt like something was stuck between my teeth, very very irritating. Nothing even touched that pain, I took Vicodin but this strange feeling in my lower front tooth just stayed there. Until I decided to go to the dentist and he decided to root canal that tooth too. This tooth just had a very little filling, leeking filling, but a root canal was not the right thing to do, but he did that. About 3 days later the pain suddenly stopped in the lower tooth. I felt good. Then, 2 week later, in the middle of July 2013 the pain came crawling back and then it was felt both in the upper front toot and the lower front tooth. The lower front tooth was very sensitive to touch, both on the inside and outside and when I use dental thread. The lower tooth pain is not bad, just when I touch the tooth, it has a "burning sensitvie" felling (I know what you are thinking now, nerve damage) . But this is so strange because if I the lower tooth is sensitive to the touch I can not feel the pain in the upper tooth and vice versa. In july 2013 I had to go to the dentist so that he could finish to fill the root canal lower tooth, at this point they had already finish the upper tooth. After they finished the lower tooth the pain just got worse, both in the upper are and the lower. Then my dentist tried to numb me by injecting analgesics on the upper area to see if the lower tooth would be ok with that and the sensitive lower tooth does get a little bit better when the upper area is numbed but not on the side of the tooth were I flosh with dental thread. OK, Me and my dentist decided to remove this upper tooth which had been root canaled tvice as you know now. On August the 24th they took the tooth. I thought I would just get better wright away but NO. I just stayed the same, I got a flipper which gave me really horrible pressure pain in my mouth and the pain in the upper area and the lower area just stayed the same. I went to a neurologist who put me on Gabapentin, the drug took the pressure pain from the flipper away but nothing touched the other pain.
On 7th of November 2013 I went to a special dentist who specialices in implants. He gives lectures all around the world and is thought to be the best in my country. He put the implant in, also a bone graft. When he opened the area he said: "there is an infection poll hanging around the bone" . He scraped that away, and worked on this and then put the bone graft I think followed by an implant.
After this surgery I did not get better. The pain just stayed the same. In late January I got a crown, "a plastic crown" to begin with because he wants the gum to adjust further to my teeth before he puts the final porcelin crown some day later.
After I got this crown and stopped jusing the flipper the pressure pain from the flipper went away and it was like the pain in the upper are stopped for a 2 - 3 days but then came back and it had mooved to the area were the bone graft is. Now I am still in pain, the pain switches from front lower tooth to the upper. I have tried to take gabapentin again because they say that it is neuralgia, atypical. It is like the Gabapentin takes the edge of the pain away. My pain is not big. It is maybe 3 - 4 on the scale 1-10 but is is pretty constant. Always when I wake up the lower tooth is sensitive. Then I get up and after a few hours the pain mooves to the upper area and then during the day is either on the upper side or the lower. The pain in the upper side is deep and is like a pain in the bone. I try to use lidocane but it does not take the pain in the upper side away. I the pain is in the upper side and I put lidocane on the gums aboeve the implant tooth it only stopps the pain in the lower tooth a bit. My pain specialist dentist whic I am also seeing he tried to inject me with analgesics and that is the only thing that stops the pain in the upper area, always a big relief when he does that, just to help me.
2 days ago I went to see another specialist who also is a professor in the univeristy hospital, a dentist also. He sent me the university 2 days ago and they took a picture, I was standing and had something in my mouth while they were taking the picture, is that a 3 d picture? I am not sure.
But before they did the picture he examed me and he said that he felt like the implant was a little little bit loose and the lower tooth too. Not much though. He contacted me by e- meil yesterday and said that he had looked at the picture and siad that it does not look 100% allright. He was going to let some specialists look at it further with him. I am waiting for an answer. He talked about the possibility of a "low grade infection" but was not sure.
Dear Bryanna, can you please tell me what you think? I would reallay apressiate it because I do not know wether this is a typical facial pain, nerve trauma, damage after dental work or an infection? After what I have written, that do you think? I am so sad an this is so hard. I want some answers. The implantolist dentist took some x rays 3 weeks ago and did not see anything abnormal were the implant is but I am curious what this university specialists will say. I just find it strange how this pain mooves between too teeth. +I had to have too molars root canaled a couple of weeks ago, they had benn root canaled befor but there was also an infection there. That was not a problem, it just hurt for a couple of days and then done. I just find it strange that I suddenly hav a nerve damage in this are , why not else were, you understand what I mena.
Anyway, sorry for how long this is and I know what you think about root canals. I also wish that I had never had root canal, then I would not be in this agony now.
